Still dressed in its factory-correct, striking black paint and
enhanced with a variety of well-chosen mechanical upgrades, this
1987 Buick Regal T Restomod offers a sort of automotive bridge
between its original era and the one that followed. It retains a
thoroughly authentic mid-'80s appearance, with a deep shine you can
see from a distance away, and chrome bumpers and trim that are in
uniformly clean shape. Its consistent body panel alignment confirms
that the passing years haven't compromised its structural integrity
and its smoked-tinted T-tops, an outstanding feature that combines
the open-air enjoyment of a convertible with markedly better sound
control when in place, really fit nicely.
Climb inside and you're likely to notice right off the bat that the
gray cloth interior still retains its deep color, no small feat
considering it's highly likely original. The accenting chrome
pieces have a uniform shine to them and up front, the dash wears a
clean pad across the top, with an array of upgraded gauges in its
instrument cluster. The factory air conditioning blows cold and
strong to keep you and your passengers comfortable throughout the
year and there's an aftermarket AM/FM stereo with an auxiliary port
and both Bluetooth and Sirius connectivity in place, although the
accompanying power antennae will need a bit of attention to get it
back to proper form.
This distinctive ride is powered by a factory-correct
307-cubic-inch V8 that's equipped with a Rochester four-barrel
carburetor, as well as a dual air intake to optimize its
performance. It sits in a nice, orderly compartment, surrounded by
fresh hoses and belts and properly routed wiring, and pairs with a
5-speed manual Tremec TKX transmission that puts full control of
its output in the hands of the driver, with an overdrive gear that
will really come in handy if you plan on frequent highway
expeditions. And, since this Buick rides on an upgraded coilover
suspension, it offers a more refined ride, enhanced cornering
ability and a level of adjustability that would be impossible in
factory configuration. A sizable aluminum radiator takes the place
of the original to help keep temperatures under control, while
power steering and four-wheel power disc brakes make navigation and
fade-resistant stops a breeze.
