Though there is no exact definition of a Pony Car, much like some
other things in life, we know it when we see it. One look at this
enchanting Navy Blue Metallic 2002 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
Convertible, and there is no mistaking it for anything but a
tried-and-true late-model Pony Car. 2002 marked the final year for
the Fourth Generation Camaro. This model stands out in particular
thanks to it being just one of 533 convertibles made in this
beautiful Navy Blue, along with having a mere 10,461 original miles
on the odometer and the addition of its Y3F Sport Appearance
Package, which includes revised front and rear fascias, rocker
panel extensions, and a more pronounced rear spoiler to give it a
uniquely racy look straight from the factory.
Inside, we find a comfortable black leather interior, highlighted
by a supportive power-adjustable driver's seat, which sits in front
of a two-spoke padded steering wheel with radio and HVAC thumb
controls. An analog gauge cluster centers on a 7,000-rpm tach and a
150-mph speedometer, while the factory Monsoon stereo is included
in the sale, this car has been upgraded with a trick Pioneer
AM/FM/CD/AUX/Satellite touchscreen that also offers Bluetooth
connectivity. A roomy center console armrest provides additional
storage, and the center-mounted cup holder is actually useful in a
car like this with an automatic transmission. The rear bucket seats
don't offer much for full-sized adults, but they can be folded down
to provide plenty of cargo space. Power windows, locks, mirrors,
cruise control, air-conditioning, and airbags round out this
Camaro's list of modern amenities.
Under that long, sleek hood, we find a fantastic, believed-original
5.7-liter aluminum-block, overhead-valve LS1 V-8. From the factory,
this mighty mouse motor pumped out an underrated 310 horsepower and
340 pound-feet of torque. That power is then funneled through a
numbers-matching 4L60E four-speed automatic transmission before
heading out to the factory ten-bolt limited-slip rear end, where
cruise-ready 3.23 gears wait to transfer those ponies to the
pavement via a set of sixteen-inch, ten-spoke wheels shod in
245/50R-16 Goodyears ready to launch.
