Draped in matte black paint, with its steel body still in largely
original configuration and its substantial collection of chrome
body trim shining brightly, this 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe is a
great-looking pre-war classic. As you circle the car, you may spot
a few areas that will require a bit of attention to bring them back
to top form, but none of them represent major undertakings, and
beneath this seldom-seen Chevy's well-aligned exterior sits an
array of modern mechanical components that combine to afford a
modern experience behind the wheel.
The black vinyl interior features a pair of modern bucket seats at
its center to make for a comfortable driving experience and, as you
look around, you'll likely notice how all the components inside
these doors still retain their deep pigmentation. The distinctive
ivory-colored steering wheel perched on its column offers a good
bit of contrast to its surroundings, and just beyond it, there's an
array of modern gauges seamlessly recessed into the padded dash
area. A high stick floor shifter puts control of the automatic
transmission within easy reach.
Raise the long, tapered hood, and you'll see an engine compartment
that presents nicely, at the center of which lurks a 350-cubic-inch
BluePrint V8 that's been outfitted with an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor and an Offenhauser aluminum intake to optimize its
performance. Having logged only 2600 miles since its installation,
the engine is just now emerging from its break-in phase and exhales
into long tube headers leading out to a pair of Turbo mufflers that
create a smooth, yet suitably aggressive exhaust note. An added
small electric fan mounted on the radiator combines with the
belt-driven fan already in place to keep operating conditions in
check under more demanding motoring conditions. Power
rack-and-pinion steering makes this vintage Chevy easy to navigate,
while power brakes - which include slotted and drilled rotors up
front - add fade-resistant stopping ability.
