It's one of the most iconic muscle cars ever to light up the
asphalt, draped in period-correct Vitamin C Orange paint and
powered by an expansive V8 that has been the envy of fellow
enthusiasts for decades. This 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 is an
outstanding representative of its model, and it arrives at the
present in great shape. Its nostalgia-inducing paint has a nice
shine and, if you take a closer look, you'll see that the broad
stripe ornamenting its hood is no mere decal. It's painted on, a
feature reserved only for 1970 Challengers rolling off the assembly
line outfitted with the coveted Bumblebee appearance package. Add
in clean chrome bumpers at both ends, along with a collection of
body trim that really shows nicely, and you have one fine-looking
Mopar classic.
Inside, the black vinyl upholstery features a pair of front bucket
seats that have been upgraded with contrasting orange stitching
that ties in well with the car's overall color scheme. The seats
straddle a clean center console with wood trim, and the dash pad
spanning the width of the cabin still has its deep black color,
with no visible warping. You'll find a collection of factory gauges
still in place inside the instrument cluster, still displaying
their readings through clear lenses. Just below, a JVC AM/FM stereo
with an auxiliary port has been added to the mix, combining with a
pair of deck-mounted speakers to create a strong audio
experience.
This vintage Dodge's spacious engine compartment is very capably
filled by a 440-cubic-inch V8 that features the displacement most
of us associate with this model during its heyday. Armed with a
Holley Street Avenger 4-barrel carburetor, it's running in fine
form, and just a tap on the accelerator pedal will provide a
convincing example of its power as it sends a dominant exhaust note
out of its pair of Pypes mufflers. The engine is combined with a
3-speed automatic A727 Torqueflite transmission that shifts with
slip-free precision, and an upgraded aluminum radiator is now on
board to keep operating temperatures under control in more
demanding driving conditions. Power steering makes this muscle car
easy to navigate, while power brakes that feature discs in front
offer the stopping ability you'd want in a spirited ride like this
one.
