Vehicle Description
When the fifth generation of Chevy's Corvette came along in 1997,
it was a paradigm shift for GM's halo car. A hydroformed frame,
rear-mounted transmission, and nearly bulletproof aluminum block
and heads LS1 motor made the C5 a globally competitive sports car.
Not happy to sit on its laurels, The General upped its game with
the debut of the world-beating Z06 in 2001. This particular 2004
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Commemorative Editon not only represents the
final year of the C5, but with just 2,025 of these
red-and-white-striped Lemans Blue Metallic hardtops made, this
limited-edition Z represents the Corvette's victory at the 24 Hours
of Le Mans.
Inside, this Z06 shows off its ultra-low 13,841-mile odometer
reading with a supple black leather interior that has barely been
broken in. A six-pod analog dashboard complemented by a Heads-Up
Display provides all the essential feedback a driver needs, while
the supportive power bucket seats embossed with the iconic Corvette
Bowtie, air conditioning, cruise control, power locks, mirrors, and
windows all make this a supercar that can easily be driven every
day.
Under the signature front-hinged lightweight carbon fiber hood, the
Z06 sports an upgraded version of the C5's base LS1 in the form of
an even-more-potent 5.7-liter LS6 V-8 engine, which makes 405
horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque from the factory. That
plethora of ponies gets funneled through a rear-mounted six-speed
manual transmission before being sent to the 3.42 geared rear end.
A set of staggered ten-spoke Z06 wheels measuring 18 inches out
back and 17 inches up front are shod in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar
tires measuring 295/35ZR-18 and 265/40ZR-17, respectively.
