When it comes to instantly recognizable automobiles, it's hard to
top the second-generation Chevy Camaro. One look at this Silver
Metallic 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, and it's easy to see why this
car was the quintessential poster car for the 1970s. The T-tops and
orange Z/28 decals advertise that this pony car still has plenty of
giddy-up left in the tank. Inside, its Carmine Red interior
unabashedly demands your attention, while the Z/28 badging on the
floor mats and steering wheel keeps things neatly organized.
Under the hood, we find a CKD-coded 1972-1974 350 cubic-inch V-8.
Topped with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and backed by a
stainless steel Borla full dual exhaust, this V-8 has the classic
rumble you'd expect from a small block Chevy. That power is routed
through a TH350 three-speed automatic transmission before heading
out to a ten-bolt rear end, which was rebuilt in 2017 with shorter
3.73 gears to help this car get off the line in a hurry.
This Z/28 rides on shocks and coils up front with a leaf spring and
air shock setup out back. Seventeen-inch wheels shod in recently
replaced 225/70R-15 BF Goodrich tires at all four corners give this
car the aggressive stance second-gen Camaros are known for.
