This is a rare SS 396 El Camino with 1968 being the first year of the preferred body style change and the first year of the SS designation! Only about 5,000 of these were made. Try looking on Ebay and Craigslist for a straight and complete 1968 El Camino SS. We bought this El Camino and had the engine inspected and started by a mechanic and it was found to run fine, but we removed the 396 engine to have it professionally torn down, steam cleaned, vatted, and magnafluxed. The engine appears to not be original but from a 1966 vehicle. The transmission we believe was rebuilt in 2008 and then the vehicle was put into storage for 6 years by the previous owner. It has a 12 bolt rear end. We have de-chromed the vehicle and have done a lot of rust removal. We have cut out the drivers side floor pan and have new floor pans ready to be installed for both sides. We removed the original gas tank and have new stainless fuel lines and a stainless steel gas tank ready to go in. We purchased a complete wiring harness kit for close to $1,000, and new polished Edelbrock 750 CFM carb for $375, custom polished aluminum valve covers, chrome Edelbrock air cleaner, polished aluminum water pump, complete engine gasket kit, complete stainless steel engine bolt kit, boxes of Chevy high temp engine primer and orange paint, and other items. This car has some typical rust through at the lower fender 1/4 panels but nowhere else. I believe this year of EL Camino has the best body style and the front end is actually shares all parts with a Chevelle. With owning/running my own business and 4 kids, I just do not have the time to put into this car. Hoping someone else see's the potential I do and pick up where I left off. Sorry NO TRADES.
