Looking cool or going fast, the hot rodders' dilemma. For the owner
of this roadster, there is no dilemma as the car is a winner in
both categories.
At the heart of the '33 is a GM Performance 502 making 450bhp and
massive amounts of torque. This very strong engine is backed up
with a Turbo 350, modified with a 3000 rpm stall converter. Gears
are changed with a B&M shifter and the power then goes to a 9"
Ford rear end equipped with 4:11 gears that turn oversize Hoosier
tires on custom wheels. The wheelie bars on the back are an added
touch that shows this a very serious street rod.
Contemporary street rods with modern features ("crate" engines,
a.c., power steering and brakes, billet wheels and accessories,
etc.) still strive for "The Look" as it was in the early 1950s. The
look on a roadster includes a raked and lowered windshield, maybe
with a removable hard top (a Carson top), a set of "big and
littles" (small tires up front, bigger in the rear), and custom
paint. This roadster has all of that and reflects what a modern
street rod should be...oh, yes, don't forget to check out the
steering wheel.
