Being offered for sale is a truly exceptional find, a very original 2 top 1961 fuel injected Corvette, in the rare factory color combination of Fawn Beige, with White coves, and Red interior. A color combination rarely seen and as such naturally draws positive attention. This extraordinary Survivor was owned and meticulously maintained by two cousins, from original purchase on July 25, 1961 at Harold K. Kurtz Chevrolet in Kutztown, PA until 2013, when the car was acquired by the current owner / collector / seller. Accompanying the car is an impressive fully documented history, with an original Sales Invoice, Owner’s Manual, Keys, and the coveted mementos offered by Chevrolet to new Corvette owners back in 1961. For the buyer who appreciates factory originality over a fresh restoration, this is a 1961 Fuelie worthy of consideration and close inspection. Clearly, cars like this are few in number and can’t be replicated.
The 1961 Fawn Beige Fuelie being offered has 42,985 miles on the odometer. Given its excellent condition, its hard to believe the actual mileage on the car is 142,985 miles. Preserving the originality of car in excellent condition is the result of conscientious custodial stewardship and thoughtful maintenance by two cousins who had a deep appreciation of the incredible vehicle in their hands. This Corvette was never used as a daily driver and was always properly garaged.
Upon purchasing the car in 1997, the second owner had the engine rebuilt and balanced by an experienced high performance engine builder. The block was not decked to make sure the assembly stamping and broach marks would be untouched. Only the block and oil pan were repainted, after they were degreased by immersion. The rest of the parts, as well as the suspension and underbody, were cleaned with Dawn dishwashing liquid so no damage would be done to the original finishes. Only by seeing this car is person and taking it for a drive can one fully appreciate the distinct pleasure of driving a 56 year old Corvette, with just under 14,000 miles on a professional engine rebuild. This is a 1961 Fuelie that starts right up and runs strong with no mechanical issues.
Most of the mileage during the original owner’s 36 year ownership was accumulated following a good friend up and down the East Coast, as the friend raced early fuelies, Lister Corvettes, and finally a 427 competition Cobra. The owners of the original Corvettes drove their Corvettes as intended, especially the high performance fuel injected Corvettes. These were car guys who were drawn to the track to witness Zora Duntov’s Corvettes take on the competition. Some of the mileage put on by the original owner was the result of being used in SCCA timed rallies, from check point to check point. The original owner was a Blue Mountain Region SCCA member.
This “turn key” 1961 Fuel Injected Corvette is located in Beacon, NY 12508. To schedule an opportunity to see this very special Corvette, please call Mark 609-306-1631 10am-8pm EST.
