In the late 1800’s, Pierce Company earned a reputation for making quality simple household products and bicycles. At the turn of the century a subsidiary of Pierce had built a handful of motorcycles and by 1908 Pierce Automobile started manufacturing one cylinder automobiles. By the mid-teens, Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company had established themselves as a producer of high-end luxury Salons and Sport Roadsters. The signature grill ornament, the Helmeted Archer, also came about during that time. Pierce-Arrow’s had a very distinctive look with their unique fender light design. A 1930 Pierce-Arrow 4S was a respectable and dignified car and with its large car wheelbase, gave it limousine status. This very rare body style is cosmetically and mechanically perfect. It features side mounts, artillery wheels, grey cloth interior and it is finished in classic black. Over $27,000 was recently spent refurbishing mechanicals and cosmetics to bring this car to show quality status. The Straight Eight engine runs smooth and has plenty of torque to push this pre-war limousine. This 1930 Pierce-Arrow Limousine is symbolic of the excesses of the roaring 20’s and would be at home on any estate.
