Vehicle Description
Just arrived1964 Aston Martin DB5 Saloon RHD.
There can be few British sports cars that are as iconic as the
Aston Martin DB5. The example offered here is a delightful matching
numbers car with few owners that spent much of its life in
Australia.
Constructed in November of 1964 this DB5 was originally finished in
Goodwood Green and dispatched to Francis Motors just before
Christmas of that year. From the old-style log book that
accompanies the car it appears to have been first registered on
January 1st 1966 with the Winterstoke Haulage Company of Bristol.
It is likely that the car was used a demonstrator for Francis
Motors during 1965 which might explain the gap between initial
dispatch and first registration. The next owner of the car was a
Brian Gray of Leeds who acquired it on 25 November 1971. Professor
Gray was an academic who subsequently moved to Sydney, Australia,
where he took up the Chair of Chemistry at Macquarie University in
1977.
The car remained with Professor Gray in Australia until 2016 when
it was returned to the UK and purchased by only its third private
owner from new. Since that time it has benefitted from a full
professional restoration and now presents beautifully in Silver
Birch with Black Connelly hide interior. It retains full matching
numbers and comes with a fantastic history file that includes the
original old style log book, heritage certificate, numerous
invoices and insurance documents, original handbook and parts
manual. Recently acquired by JD Classics it provides a wonderful
opportunity to acquire an example of this most iconic of all
British Classics with exceptional provenance. Please contact us for
