The previous owner was an architectural engineer who bought the car from his friend in 1990 who was Walter Carlton lll, the lead engineer for the Tulsa basedAuburn Cord Deusenberg Company. This Clipper for the past three decades was owned by two serious Packard enthusiasts and it really still shows today with the stunning but handsome overall condition. Dressed in Zircon Blue upper and lower with a belt of Sapphire Metallic in the middle, the paint and trim on this car are in excellent order. All of the windows are clear and crack-free, except for a few minor blemishes on the wrap around windshield, and the car's lights, including the teardrop taillamps, are in excellent shape. All the correct and very hard to find "Clipper" trim and emblems are present and look fantastic! The car has factory wheel covers and wide whitewall tires, size 9.00-15. All of the Packard's body panels are straight and solid, the engine bay is quite tidy and the battery looks new. Within that engine bay is a 320 CID V-8 225HP engine with a Carter four-barrel downdraft carburetor. It's buttoned to a three-speed manual transmission with 3.90 gearing. This car was originally a factory Twin-Ultramatic transmission car which was the new transmission from Packard in 1955 but had an extremely high failure rate due to teething problems so this car was converted to a 3 speed manual transmission by Mr. Carlton during his ownership. Open the doors and the courtesy lights wink obediently on. The white and blue interior is simply stunning. The original and correct dash still present theGold Clipper Super ship's wheel emblem, overall the dash trim pieces and all the detailed bits of the dash are in stunning condition! The two-tone bench seats are in superb condition, the blue carpet is in very good condition while the headliner, instrument panel with full instrumentation, two-spoke steering wheel, inner door panels and mirror glass are all in excellent or very good shape. Completing this unique interior is a factory AM radio. The overall excellent condition of the interior really tells the story on just how well cared for this Packard really was over the past decades! The Super was the mid range model in the Clipper line -- models were designated as Deluxe, Super and Custom. The Deluxe and Super were very similar mechanically having the 320 engine but slightly different in trim levels. A bit more chrome in the Super and different selection of fabrics. When introduced, both models were on standard conventional springs but the Super could be optioned with the Torsion Level later in production. Great styling, potent V-8 power, a fabulous ride and a handsome hardtop with the Super Panama. The Panama was the name used in designating the hardtop in the Super series and Constellation was the designation in the Custom series. The car is replete with the Panama motif - the nautical wheel from a sailing vessel - on the wheel cover centers, the B-pillars, the steering wheel hub, instrument panel and the seat frames. Competition to the Packard in 1955 included Buick's Series 50 Super Riviera Coupe, DeSoto's Fireflite V-8 Sportsman, Hudson Hornet Custom Six Hollywood Hardtop, Lincoln's Capri Special Custom Sports Coupe and Oldsmobile's Super 88 Holiday Coupe. This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 51,908 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt Oklahoma title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
