Here is a 1967 Chevelle 300 you can really have some fun with.
It has the subtle look of a sleeper, with its 2-door sedan body
style and basic accoutrements. Still, the shiny black paint and
classic Chevelle lines say something else. Fire up the 396ci big
block and it's clear this is not some grocery getter. Throw in
features like an overdrive transmission and power front disc brakes
and you've got a ride you can really enjoy.
This car was built at the Fremont, CA plant in June 1967. It spent
much of its life in the southwest (always desirable for rust
prevention) until being restored in Georgia two years ago.
Originally a Marina Blue V8 car, it was repainted black and has a
beautiful mirror-like finish. Look closely at the pictures and
you'll see what I mean. All the chrome and moldings are bright and
shiny, while the grille and emblems are in excellent condition too.
The stamped steel wheels with hubcaps and radial redline tires help
give the car a restrained look. It's all a nice change-up from your
average Chevelle SS396.
The original V8 engine has been replaced with a 396 cubic inch
big-block. This is a 3955272 casting from the late 60's that has
been fully rebuilt. It was built with a 375hp cam and sounds
fantastic. Features include roller rockers, HEI electronic
distributor, Holley double-pumper carburetor, and Hooker ceramic
coated headers. Note the aluminum radiator as well.
Along with the engine upgrade, the transmission has been replaced
with a rebuilt 700R4 automatic with overdrive (nice to have on the
highway). It has a complete kickdown linkage as well. The 10-bolt
rear end uses an F41-style 4-link suspension with boxed control
arms and a stabilizer bar. The power brakes are all new and have
been converted to front discs.
The new red interior really adds to the sleeper look, especially
with the bench front seat and basic trimmings. Everything is in
excellent condition including the seats, carpet, headliner, and
door panels. The horn, wipers, heater, and defroster all work
properly too.
I see plenty of 1966-67 Chevelles out there but not many like this
one. It steps away from the masses of hardtop coupes and their
typical colors, flashy wheels, and usual emblems. Instead it offers
a sleek stealthy look, nice performance, and a fun ride that will
keep everyone guessing.
