This 1942 GMC pickup truck is an excellent, rare example of one of the most iconic American pickup trucks ever produced. When the United States entered World War II in late 1941, is was quickly determined that a full industrial effort on the part of the nation would be needed on the quest for victory. As a result, on January 1, 1942 all new sales of automobiles to the general public ceased. Production continued until February 1942; however, those vehicles were conscripted by the US government for military use or rationed by the War Production Board for uses deemed “necessary” for the war effort. These low production numbers make this GMC pickup a rare and highly collectable vehicle. In 1942, this pickup sold for $740 new, $12 less than the comparable Chevrolet and $30 less than its competitor from Ford.
The 228 c.i., 93 hp engine with full pressure to the bearings that powers this truck is unique to GMC pickups. According to the consignor, this truck has been well restored. On the exterior, the correct green and black paint are attractively dressed with a chrome grill, bumpers, hub caps, and clean white wall tires. During the restoration, a new pickup bed with wood flooring was installed. Due to the scarcity of quality original truck sheet metal, the rear fenders and running boards are new, quality fiberglass replacement parts. The 15” wheels are correct for the CC-150 GMC series, officially classified as a ¾-ton. On the road, this truck runs and drives extremely well. The brakes function properly, and the master cylinder was recently replaced. The windshield, which cranks out for more ventilation on a hot day, is a unique feature of 1940s-era vehicles and functions properly.
