This 1963 Carrera II Cabriolet was purchased by Roy Stantz in
Chicago Illinois in 1963 and has lived the good life ever since.
Almost 15 years later, this special Cabriolet showed up in a
red/tan color combination at the 1987 356 Holiday in Estes Park
Colorado, where it won "Best of Show" for Dr. Larry Tree. The
Tree's followed up with another a win in the "Special Production"
category at the Porsche Parade, which solidified what a truly
remarkable 356 they had. In the following year, famed Porsche
collector, Charlie Hunter, obtained the car and it remained hidden
in the mountains of Virginia, idle for two more decades until we
purchased it in 2008. While the car was kept in exceptional
condition, the factory Kardex revealed that it was a
Paint-to-Sample "Condor Yellow" exterior with a Black interior. We
were excited to see the Kardex, and knew that a whole lot of work
was ahead of us when the fastidious client that we sold it to said,
"Great, now restore it"! At that moment, this 1963 Carrera II
Cabriolet became our very first restoration project. Upon
disassembly, we hit the lottery! We found one dent, that's it, a
single dent! All of the sheet metal was original, the battery pan,
floor pan, all of it... The trim and hard to find items were all
there, with virtually no repo parts. The engine and transmission
are numbers-matching units and only needed to be fine-tuned upon
re-installation. This Cabriolet presented itself as the ultimate
wish list as far as restorations go. Since its completion, this
award winner has been shown a couple of times; adding to its list
of accolades, the 2008 Porsche Parade Zuffenhausen Award, but has
primarily sat on display as part of a 356 soft top collection. We
are very proud to offer one of the finest 356 Carrera II's on the
planet, in a one of a kind color.
