For Sale: 1964 Amphicar 770 in St. Louis, Missouri
Very rare and always appreciated by those who get to see them!
Excellent color combination of Regatta Red over Red/White and
showing only 7,800 miles! Cosmetically and mechanically restored
to superb standards! Road ready and swim ready! In 1961, an
American auto manufacture joined up with a German manufacture to
mass produce the first factory built, public dual-purpose vehicle
for land and water use. The company was Amphicar and the Model 770
was born. It was a street legal convertible, and a water ready
boat all in one! Named for its 7mph top speed on the water and
70mph on land; Model 770. Manufactured in small quantities each
year from 1961 through 1967, only 3,878 were built, of which 3,046
were exported to the USA. Production was halted due to new EPA and
DOT regulations introduced in 1968. Late production examples were
titled in the year they were first sold & registered, so finding
1968 examples is possible. Today, they are now extremely rare and
highly prized collectibles! We are excited to offer this
exceptional 1964 Amphicar Model 770 finished in Regatta Red with
Red/White interior and brand new white convertible top. Options
include the original, number's matching Triumph 1147cc OHV 4
cylinder engine with single Solex carburetor, 4-speed fully
synchromesh manual transmission, heater with defrost, MotoMeter
gauges, polished wheel covers, 6.40-13" BF Goodrich Silvertown
whitewall tires, and dual rear propellers! This example comes with
only 7,856 miles on the odometer and has been beautifully
maintained in original condition! This example hails from a
long-term collection in Del Mar, California before making its way
to Canyon Lake, Texas more recently in 2011. We are confident this
Amphicar is ready for water usage, but has not likely been in the
water very often since new. The hull itself is in great condition
showing no signs of damage or rust proving it has been dry most of
its life. It has been only cosmetically restored to include newer
exterior paint along with all chrome including bumpers, fresh
weather seals, and interior vinyl floor mat. The interior
upholstery including door panelsare all new, but retains the
original sun visors. Upon arrival in Texas, it had new moldings
for the tail fin, headlights, taillights, hood, & fins replaced,
brand new white convertible top & boot cover installed, door handle
gaskets, windshield seal, hood weather seal, and ivory bumper
inserts. The St. Louis Car Museum contributed a full brake service
to include brand new brake master cylinder, all wheel cylinders,
and relined brake shoes in May 2017. It will come complete with
owner's manual, matching spare tire, jack, navigation light bar, 4
life jackets, wooden oar, fire extinguisher, hood & trunk
lock/release key, extra ignition keys, and a parts manual from
Gordon Imports, Inc. Service records will date back to 2011, and
California water vessel registration stickers back to 2001. These
extraordinary cars appear on the market every so often, but to find
one with such low mileage and largely original overall is a real
treat! Only 3,878 of these amphibious cars were ever produced
making them an excellent collection piece and future investment!
Many have been swallowed up by museums throughout the world to
forever been seen as simple conversation pieces. Even our
President Lyndon B. Johnson owned one that is now on display at his
historical LBJ Ranch!! Don't miss this chance to own a wonderful
piece of the automotive history! Please call with any questions.
We look forward to your business!
