ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS HOT ROD, FULLY RESTORED, 1937 FORD 5 WINDOW COUPE...BUILT 383 STROKER V8, DUAL QUAD CARBS, LOADED UP WITH POWER STEERING, POWER DISC BRAKES, A/C AND MORE....SHOW WINNER, BUILT TO DRIVE AND ENJOY!!!
This Torch Red '37 Ford 5 Window Coupe is simply gorgeous from every angle and was treated to a frame off restoration about 9 years ago. The car spent most of its life in Idaho where it was restored by a gentleman who has built quite a few '37 5 window coupes over the year. This is the 2nd time I have owned this sweet Hot Rod. I originally purchase it from a gentleman in Arizona who was a true classic car enthusiast and owned the car for about 3 years. He and his wife enjoyed taking this one to the local shows and cruise-ins where it won many trophies. He really struggled with selling this one because not only was it a beautiful Hot Rod but it also drove as nice as any classic he had owned and never left them stranded and never over heated even in the Arizona heat. But, if you are also a classic car enthusiast you know what it is like to want another toy and so he decided it was time to let the next lucky owner enjoy this Red Hot Rod. I then sold it in 2017 to a collector in Massachusetts and had the opportunity to buy it back whichI happily did. I will do my best to provide enough large images, a video of it starting up and running, and an honest description to help you decide if this 5 Window Coupe should be in your garage this summer.
As mentioned, this '37 was treated to a professional, frame-off restoration about 9 years ago and the paint and body are absolutely outstanding!!! This is an all steel bodied car with the exception of the rear fenders which are a high quality fiberglass. Body panels are extremely straight and body panel fit is outstanding especially when you consider this car is 80 years old and chances are the body panels fit better than they did in '37. Doors open and shut very nicely! Original hood with original hood ornament that also acts as the release handle looks great and functions properly. Engine side panels can be removed if desired but look great on. Chrome grille looks outstanding and all of the rest of the chrome, bumpers, trim etc. all look excellent. Taillights were changed out to '39 style and are updated LED lights for better visibility. Running boards looks great. The body is really near flawless although on very close inspection you will notice some very tiny cracks in the paint on the lower rear fenders and a really small rock chip on the drivers side front part of the hood. Most people would miss these tiny imperfections because the glistening red paint usually takes their breath away. All of the glass looks great although there are 2 small rock chips on the windshield. Windows roll up and down nicely and weatherstripping was all replaced. The car was professionally detailed and has a great layer of wax on it that you can simply wipe down with a microfibre cloth before the shows. I think the photo tour below will show you what you need to see and I feel confident saying this '37 looks as good in person as it does in the pics!
Complimenting the jaw dropping Torch Red exterior is a really sweet custom gray interior that is extremely comfortable. Drivers seat is a 6-way power seat and should accommodate drivers of all sizes. Custom door panels match the seats and all of the upholstery looks close to new. 3-point seat belts installed for safety. Tilt steering column with a beautiful wood grain banjo steering wheel. Nice set of gauges in the dash with a knee knocker tach mounted below the steering wheel. All of the gauges appear to be working correctly. This '37 also has updated air conditioning which is controlled with a toggle switch under the dash and the heater knob for the blower fan. The A/C ducts are actually behind the front seats and blow forward and do a nice job keeping the cabin cool when needed Nice sounding am/fm/cd with speakers mounted in the rear deck panel. Gray headliner and sun visors finish out the interior. Inside the glove box you will find an original 1937 Ford Manual. Overall a super comfortable and well appointed custom interior ready for the shows and cruise-ins.
At this point hopefully you are thrilled with how nice this '37 looks and maybe you are wondering if it could possibly run and drive as nice as it looks.....ABSOLUTELY!!!!! If you have owned or driven any older Hot Rods you probably now that not all of them run and drive all that great and are quite dangerous to hit the road in. Not this '37!!!! Lets start with the 383 Stroker V8 power plant that has just under 4000 miles on it since the restoration. I would estimate horsepower at 350-400 hp which is more than enough to set you back in your seat if you mash the pedal and will get you on the highway with ease and will also cruise out at 75 mph with no issue. Nice street cam gives it a slight lope at idle. Feeding the fuel is a beautiful polished Edlebrock Dual Quad Carburetor set up that is dialed in just right. Nice set of ceramic coated headers breathe out through the Magnaflow dual exhaust that gives this Hot Rod exactly the tone it deserves and you can hear it running in the video that follows. The engine bay is nicely detailed and polished alternator and polished A/C compressor help dress it up. Red Top Optima battery neatly mounted for strong cranking power and custom radiator enclosure helps keep this baby running cool at all times! Driving this ground pounding classic is also a breeze thanks to the Mustang II front end and power steering set up and stopping is also a breeze thanks to the power front disc brakes. No pulling, no vibrations, just a smooth and tight ride from this '37. Of course it is an automatic and the Turbo 350 transmission was completely rebuilt and shifts smooth and strong. Rear end gearing is estimated at 3.23 gears for comfortable highway cruising. This 3 window Coupe really hits the road beautifully and is a joy to drive!!
As you will see in the pics that follow this '37 is also a car you would be proud to put mirrors under to show off the detail to the undercarriage done during the restoration. Frame rails, rear end and other components are painted in a matching Torch red and everything still looks great underneath. Inside of the trunk is nicely finished out in matching carpeting and spare tire with cover. Behind the spare is some of the A/C equipment and blower pushing cold air in to the cabin when needed. This Hot Rod has the perfect stance with American Racing Torq Thrust polished wheels wrapped in nice set of wider 235/70/15 radials in the rear with lower profile 185/60/15 radials up front that have tons of tread life left.
