A Great Pony Car1967 Cougar XR 7
This 1967 Cougar is a best buy:
The car was the subject of a feature article in the July 2005 edition of Tri-State Torque (see picture). This Cougar went to the World Ford Show in St. Louis to compete against 400 other great cars and the City Cat came out on top. That was followed by an invitation to parade in front of the grandstand!
So this is a special Cougar indeed!
A Real Pony Car
The paint is a beautiful re-spray of the original Inverness Green and is in extremely nice condition. The paint gleams and shows off the cars impressive lines.
The chrome is in excellent condition while the smaller stainless trim pieces are pitted.
The green upholstery (front buckets with a console) is in excellent condition and matches the green exterior. There are no holes or tears in the seats. Four-sets of seat belts are also installed.
The dash pad looks fresh and in excellent condition as does the headliner. The door panels look as new.
The interior of this Cougar looks as nice as it did when the car rolled out of the showroom in 1967.
The specially-built replacement 302 V-8 engine makes this car come alive with far more horsepower than the original 289, and it will make your heart race as well. The 1992 Ford 302 was bored .040 over and had a Crane Cam installed. The 302 had a new double roller timing setup installed and Mallory ignition. A 570 Holley street avenger carburetor was mounted on an Edelbrock intake. Exhaust is through Holley ceramic-coated headers into Flowmaster mufflers and pipes. The cars engine runs and drives like a new one.
The C4 automatic transmission with Kevlar bands, a 2200 stall converter and a B&M shift kit was rebuilt last year and works fine, shifting properly and allowing one to loaf along in traffic and explode when the road opens up.
This Cougar has BF Goodrich radial tires all mounted on stainless-steel Cragar New Street Star 15x7 wheels. The tires appear to have most of their tread remaining.
This car has most of the luxury features that Mercury offered including:
All of the instruments and safety equipment (lights, turn signals, horn, wipers) are working. The car is also equipped with seat belts. And, importantly, the power front disc brakes allow the Cougar to compete with more modern cars in stopping distances. The AM radio looks to be original and works fine. In your spare time between shows you can figure out why the heater blower and the clock arent working and the headlight covers operate just some of the time.
An Inexpensive Way to enter the World of Pony Cars!!
This car provides an affordable window into one of the great American Pony cars: a strong V-8 engine and bucket seats all packaged into a pillarless coupe. The great paint and excellent interior makes this the perfect car for show or go! Take this one to the shows or the ice cream shopit (and you) will be at home at both.
