For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our Houston showroom is this
fearsome 1968 Chevrolet El Camino. What do we mean by fearsome? For
starters, its practically new 496 CID Chevrolet V8 has less than
1000 miles on it since it was fired up, and it sounds tight and
very nasty. To make sure this mill is properly fed, a full 5/8" ID
fuel line setup was custom engineered from the tank to the big 850
CFM Demon Carb, using stainless tubing and real AN-fitting braided
steel hose (no braided sleeves here - this is the real deal)! Spark
control is provided by an MSD Digital 6AL with MSD wires. Built by
Scott Ruther, the big 496 is sure to be up to the task for many
miles to come. The 496 Rat Motor sends its twist to the rear wheels
via a new GM TH400 3-speed automatic trans, equipped with a B&M
Hammer shift kit and 3500 RPM Stall Converter, out to a GM 12-bolt
rear end housing 3.73:1 gears - plenty of grunt to put a smile on
its driver's face every time the loud pedal gets mashed. To help
the driver keep tabs on the big block, it is equipped with the most
important AutoMeter gauges: large face memory tach, temp, and a
mechanical oil pressure gauge. When you're ready to get rolling,
don't worry about hooking up, as the Mickey Thompson drag radials
out back are up to the task of wrinkling up the pavement. This
beast is made for sucking the headlights out if its competition on
the strip, for sure; but it's not incapable of being driven around
town or out on the highway for a cruise. Its brown vinyl bench seat
is in great shape, the carpet is practically unused, and it even
has an aftermarket consold with cupholders. The exterior is low-key
cool, with a sleeper shade of Palomino Tan covering the body, and
no extra "look at me" stuff to attract unnecessary attention. The
body consists of all of its original panels, and from the pictures,
one can tell that this El Camino has good bones. Options on this
1968 Chevrolet El Camino for sale include AM/FM radio, Vinyl Seats,
Cragar Aluminum Wheels, Radial Tires, and Seat Belts. For more
