The most-storied muscle machines to emerge from Chevrolet performance-guru Vince Piggins’ COPO machinations were the 427-powered Camaros he fed through his performance-dealer pipeline in 1969. This 1969 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is a rare commodity, one of 58 produced in 1969 with the Rally Sport option package. In contrast to the majority of 1969 COPO Camaros that were minimalist by design, this example was liberally equipped, making it the perfect ride for both street and strip action. A rotisserie restoration has been performed that included refinishing the car in brilliant Hugger Orange paint. The Z22 Rally Sport package builds on the sporty addition of front and rear spoilers with a unique grille with vacuum-operated headlight covers, front valence-mounted parking lights and rear valence-mounted backup lights, bright lower body, wheel arch and belt-reveal trim, bright roof-drip rail moldings and RS badging. The cowl-induction hood hints at the car’s matching numbers MN-suffix L72 427/425 HP engine, a serious race-ready powerhouse with 11.1:1 compression, a 780 CFM Holley 4-barrel carburetor, aluminum intake manifold, free-flowing rectangular-port heads, solid-lifter camshaft and a forged rotating assembly in a 4-bolt main bottom end. The COPO 9561 equipment package further adds a beefy 400 Turbo automatic transmission with a horseshoe shifter, a BE-code 4.10:1 Positraction rear end, power front disc brakes and a 4-core curved-neck radiator. The Yenko-inspired COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion package added a 13/16-inch front stabilizer bar, 15x7-inch Rally wheels with Goodyear Wide Tread GT E70x15 tires and a 140 MPH speedometer. Perhaps this car’s most unique feature is its white houndstooth Z87 Custom interior, one seldom seen in COPOs that, in addition to bucket seats and a center console, comprises special-molded door panels, wood-grain accents on the instrument panel and steering wheel, bright pedal trim, a glove-compartment light and a passenger grab handle. Documentation includes the Protect-O-Plate and COPO Connection certificate.
