The Volvo 262C is considered Volvo's first "Luxury Coupe". The inspiration came from an group of American automotive industrialists led by Henry Ford ll, traveled to Sweden to tour Volvo's new Kalmar factory. The Americans brought with them cars to drive, all were 2 door Lincoln Mark coupes with low roofs and wide C-pilars. American Cars were rare in Sweden, and they caught the attention of Swedish people inside and outside the Factory. Volvo courted European body designer Carrozzeria Bertone to take on the luxury coupe project and the 262C Bertone Coupe was born. The body and interior conversions offered by Bertone added a level of luxury never seen before in a Volvo
