1970 CAMARO Z-28

Z-28 - A special factory road-racer version of the Camaro

Finished in Hugger Orange BC/CC PPG, (painted by Skeeter’s Paint Service in Kansas City) smooth as silk. Black and Orange hounds-tooth interior, (original per trim tag was black buckets (TR-711) this 1970 Chevy Camaro Z/28 was the recipient of a one-year-old, show quality rotisserie restoration completed in 2015. Although the car was redone with some minor mechanical modifications, it retains its matching numbers engine, matching numbers transmission, and factory correct rear housing (original per second owner of 30 years). Current mileage 73911 as of 03/2017……. 8,733 production, 1185 with M22 transmissions (how many real Z/28’s are left).

Restoration included all facets including but not limited to: frame, suspension, engine rebuild (as needed), transmission rebuild (as needed), balanced driveshaft, new Hurst shifter, differential (as needed), complete new interior, gauges (resto), new power steering pump, gear box, hoses, belts added 03/2017, new paint, new glass, new weather-strip, new chrome, stainless (as needed), new body bushings, new brakes (roter’s / drums), new fuel lines, new gas tank / sender, new shocks, new u-joints, new wheel bearings, original wheels (restored).

Cosmetically, the car is clean as a whistle from top to bottom. It was stripped down to bare metal during the restoration. Much of the nuts and bolts on the body have been replaced with shiny new hardware or cleaned and replaced. All glass is new (PPG ordered from GM). The stainless trim around the windows (roof rails) have been replaced and are in excellent condition. Body bushings replaced. The paint (bb/cc, PPG) has an excellent color sanded finish and stripes that have been buried beneath the clear coat. The undercarriage was refinished in red oxide primer.

The engine in the Z/28 has matching number 350 block, 360 hp., with the correct VIN matching stamp by the oil filter housing. The M-22 rock crusher transmission also has the correct stamping which matches the last 6 of the VIN on the car (546599). The rear end housing is date code correct for a May production car, 4:10.1 gears.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCE PACKAGE:

Package includes- Special Performance 360hp 350cid LT-1 V8 engine with 11.0:0 compression, Header Panel Nameplate "C" and "Camaro", Valance Mounted Parking Lamp with Clear Lens and, Amber Bulb, Single "Power Beam" Headlamps, Bright Headlamp Bezel, Black Painted Radiator Grille, Bright Radiator Grille Outline Molding, Radiator Grille Z28 Emblem, One-piece Front Bumper with Dual Bumper Guards, Front License Plate Mounting Provision in Center, Wide Hood Paint Stripes, Bright Top and Side Windshield Reveal Molding, Two-speed Windshield Wipers and Washers, Non-depressed Park – 26 inch radiator (heavy duty).

Non-factory additions during the restoration to this engine include:

Smokey Yunick SY-1 intake manifold, Pro Billet distributor, Hooker Comp ceramic coated headers, custom grind camshaft / rockers, orange/black hounds-tooth interior, cowl hood and Doug electric exhaust dumps. BF Goodrich Radial T/A 235-60-R15. Spare is a 15” steel rally wheel with a Michelin 190-45 R15”.

The brakes (disc front, drum back), and suspension on the Z/28 have been completely rebuilt from front to rear. Brakes: 11-inch, vented, cast-iron front discs with vacuum assist standard. Rear 9.5-inch drums. New brakes lines and hoses. The suspension received new bushings throughout, new tie rods, sway bars (Herb Adams 1-1/4” front, 1”rear), end links, and ball joints. The suspension is tight. Standard Z/28 wheels and trim rings, (original to car), good condition (restored but have wear marks).

This engine has 11:1 compression, special grind cam shaft (108 degree lobe center)

Valve lash .020 intake, .022 exhaust, GM heads 205 angle plugs, Original flywheel

Rods are .10 over, mains standard. Factory oil windage tray. Super comp rocker arms, full roller assembly

Notice how nice the doors open and close (no forcing to close, no banging when handle is lifted to open), when is the last time you saw that?  Window regulators operate smoothly. Paint is truly nice, beautiful quality.  If one was to restore another Z28 to this quality and had to pay for all parts and labor it would be well over 100K.
