There are supercars, and then there is the Porsche 911 GT2.
Unveiled at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show and only produced until
2004, the 996-based GT2 has been described as the "evil twin" of
the 911 Turbo. With increased boost and upgraded electronic
controls, the car produced 456 horsepower, and was described by
Porsche project manager Hartmut Kristen as being "...for the driver
who wants to be able to take his car to its absolute limits on his
own." With a top speed of nearly 200 miles per hour, the absolute
limit is quite lofty.
Stripped of speed-robbing items like rear seats, and even a spare
tire, the GT2 included an adjustable rear wing, extra cooling
ducts, and a strengthened six-speed manual transmission. In
addition, the GT2 was equipped with ceramic composite anti-lock
four-wheel disc brakes, lowered springs, an adjustable suspension,
and massive, low-profile tires, providing true race car
behavior.
To manage its high-speed potential, the GT2 also has a longer nose
and other aerodynamic features to increase downforce and stability.
Capable of low 12-second quarter-mile times and over 1-g on the
skidpad, the GT2 was priced at over $276,000, and left magazine
testers "speechless."
This example is outstanding with approximately 16,500 original
miles plus a clean CARFAX and remains in well-cared-for condition.
The owner reports that the 911 GT2 has a perfect body with
excellent paint. It is further described to have a "fantastic"
interior and is a non-smoker car and exhibits no material shrinkage
on the dash. The Porsche has a great presence in Black with a Black
leather interior with red stitching and red seatbelts that add a
very tasteful and subtle touch. The door panels, seats, carpets,
and headliner are also stated to be in excellent condition.
Equipment includes a radio with CD player, air conditioning; power
steering, windows, seats, and brakes. The seats also have the
optional Porsche crest embossed in the headrest area.
Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the Porsche
is also in excellent mechanical form and is documented with service
records for the last 2,600 miles since August 2012 that total
approximately $2,500. This does not include four new Toyo Pro XES
tires that were fitted within the last 500 miles. There are also
seven services in the maintenance book from October 2002 to August
2015 showing 16,174 miles. The last three services were executed by
Scottsdale Porsche. Books, tools and original key are also part of
the package.
This exciting machine represents one of only 198 GT2's sold in the
U.S. in 2002 and one of only 328 in total U.S. production. Rare in
any condition, this presents a rare opportunity to acquire a very
respected and desired Porsche model. Celebrate every straightaway,
twist, and turn.
