Vehicle Description
Hertz Rent-A-Car advertised, "Shelby Designed, Cobra Bred, Ford
Powered and Rented Exclusively by Hertz." Only 999 Shelby GT350s
were built in 1966, as documented by the SAAC. This is one of only
59 built in Ivy Green, making it very rare. This car is fully
documented in the SAAC Shelby Registry and was recently verified by
the 1965-66 Shelby registrar Howard C. Pardee. As the SAAC
paperwork documents, Serial #SFM6S1025 was ordered with the Hertz
special wheels, radio and brake booster. The total MSRP was
$3,762.84. This car was shipped on February 21, 1966, to Jack
Loftus Ford and then shipped to the Hertz Corporation located at
O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL. Three different
service invoice copies from the SAAC are included. As the SAAC and
letters from previous owners document, this car has great ownership
history in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Canada and Wisconsin. The car
has 72,401 original miles (the title reads mileage exempt). The
last owner, in Wisconsin, purchased the car in 2004 as a survivor.
He had the car completely restored in 2010, by well-known Shelby
restorer and owner of "Shelby Parts and Restoration" Jim Cowles.
Most of the parts that were replaced during the restoration were
Ford NOS or OEM. The car retains almost all of its original sheet
metal and has a framed fiberglass hood. The body is very straight
and the Ivy Green paint with gold stripes is show-quality. All of
the glass is original Ford Carlite. The Hertz wheels, including the
spare, are original and were restored. The wheels are wrapped with
correct Goodyear Polygas tires. The black interior is all-original,
with the exception of the carpet and a few other miscellaneous
items. The original Cobra tach was restored. The engine compartment
is very correct and highly detailed throughout. During the
restoration both of the Ford VIN and Shelby serial number were
verified with photos, which are included. The original
matching-numbers Hi-Po 289ci engine was completely rebuilt. It has
the correct Hi-Riser Cobra intake, Buddy Bar valve covers, Holley
carburetor, oil pan, oil filter and Auto Lite parts. The engine
breathes through the correct headers and concours dual-exhaust
system. The C4 automatic transmission and rear end were both
completely rebuilt. The undercarriage is also very correct and
highly detailed throughout. It's finished in the red oxide paint
with proper overspray. Even the gas tank has the dates and stamps.
Many extras are included such as the SAAC registry book, binder
with records, owner's manuals, Hertz brochure, key chain and model
cars. This car has recently been completely serviced and detailed,
which is fully documented with an invoice. From the MS Classic Cars
Collection.
