Shown at the 2016 Legends of the Autobahn
Road and Track magazine declared that the 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300
SEL 6.3 Sedan was one of the "Ten Best Cars in the World." The
Mercedes 6.3 also won the Best Sedan over $10,000 in the August
1971 edition's greatly anticipated yearly rankings.
The car exhibited scorching performance that was perfectly blended
with the typical Mercedes-Benz traits of comfort, dignity, and
longevity of service. Some felt that the 6.3 was best exemplified
by being as close to being all of the Ten Best Cars in the World in
one exceptional package. The 6.3-liter V-8 engine was reported as
being able to give the car the acceleration of a Porsche, the air
suspension ride would be comparable to the Jaguar XJ6, and handling
that, with the proper driver at the controls, was considered to be
almost as good as that of the latest Ferraris. Roominess and
practicality are also bonuses that led some Road and Track staffers
to consider this to be the machine that would best fit all of their
automotive desires.
This color code 903 Blue (confirmed on data tag) over blue example
has been mechanically and cosmetically restored by Star Motors in
New York. The original interior was deemed to be too nice to have
it redone and remains in outstanding condition. The car has been
sparingly used since this work was executed. It is reported to be
in excellent driving condition and the owner feels that it is "one
of the nicest examples."
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan is well equipped and has
desirable period features that includes a sunroof, air
conditioning, VDO instrumentation, nicely presented wood trim
elements, period multi-band radio, Nardi wood-rimmed steering
wheel; power windows, steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. The
wheels match the factory presentation and the tires are by
Goodyear.
The best cars in the world are meant for those with a passion for
driving. Mercedes-Benz is quite familiar with the routine.
Addendum:
Please note this vehicle is not a 1970 as originally stated in the
catalog.
