flagship luxury sedan, they took every new and innovative
indulgence they could come up with and consolidated them into a
single model - the S600. Launched in March of 1991 at the Geneva
Motor Show, the new Mercedes S600 was incomparably luxurious and
the most expensive and largest of all Mercedes sedans - weighing in
at 2.5 tons and 17 feet in length. One might think that such a
behemoth would be impossibly arduous to drive and frustratingly
sluggish - but not so. Powered by the 6.0 liter, double overhead
cam, 48 valve, V12 with fuel injection, the S600 engine can
generate 389 horsepower and 420 pound-feet torque - but more
importantly it can catapult you from 0-60 mph in six seconds and
top out at 179 mph. \r\n\r\nLathered in extras, the S600 is
wickedly plush. It features leather, walnut burl trims, deep-pile
carpeting and separate rear air conditioning, a power sunroof, a
Bose sound system with cassette and trunk-mounted compact disc
changer and vault-like doors with power trunk and door locks. All
these features come factory as do the vanity mirrors front and
rear, reading lamps, power sunroof, power steering-wheel that moves
up, down backwards and forwards at the touch of a button, front and
side air bags, a sophisticated anti-theft system, and automatic
climate control. There is even a computerized smog sensor designed
to detect exhaust fumes in the cabin! The sedan comfortably
accommodates four people each with their own power seat, and a
fifth if required, between the two rear seats. The technology
amenities include a sophisticated multi-functional remote-entry
system which not only locks and unlocks the doors and the trunk,
but also raises the windows and closes the sunroof from the
key-fob. The Electronic Stability Program ESP automatically applies
the brakes to certain wheels depending on whether it detects
under-steering or over-steering and the Anti-lock Braking System
and the Automatic Slip Reduction System provide ultimate pilot
control. This example was built in 1996 and is superb in its
stately black on black livery. All original and in mint condition
it was owned until recently by Ken Reafsnyder and his wife. They
have maintained the car meticulously and driven it minimally, so
that today it has only 26,000 original miles on the odometer. The
only modifications made to the factory model are the optional hands
free phone connection, and a battery cut off switch in the trunk.
The car comes with a portfolio of documents including the original
build sheet with hand written notes and various books and
paperwork. \r\n\r\nThe S600 is, to all intents and purposes,
automotive perfection personified. The fer de lance technology
coupled with sumptuous appointments make this car an experience as
pleasurable for the driver as for the passenger. The magnificent
color combination of this 1996 model demands serious respect and
its condition is outstanding. In the same way as the S600 was the
pride and joy of Mercedes in the 90\'s, this S600 it will most
certainly be the pride and joy of its next owner./p
