Vehicle Description
Any time you see a final generation Mazda RX-7 it's a special
sight. But from the moment you lay eyes on this bold red machine,
you know it's extraordinary. With all of the ultra-cool body
additions, the Corvette-style hood scoop on the front is a nice
hint at the 392-horsepower beast within.
If you know RX-7s, then you can instantly pick up on how unique
this one is from every angle. It has plenty of pricey body upgrades
that include the home market (Japan) front lip spoiler, Seibon
carbon fiber hood w/NRG hydraulic hood struts, Re Amimaya side body
kit, Shine low-profile full-width spoiler, and Re Amimaya rear
valance. All of this looks especially well coordinated because the
whole car was given a professional respray in a bold Viper Red. The
slick paint combines with the tinted windows and blacker-out
taillight panel to create a truly sinister appearance. As slippery
as this coupe looks, it's also a bright standout. After all, the
CCW 18-inch polished alloys radiate any light around this custom
build, and they serve a higher performance purpose with its
"swissed" lightened construction.
Open the door, and this is an instant reminder that this Mazda was
rebuilt for performance. The Recaro bucket seats are a racing icon,
and they are there for more than just show. It's backed up by a
four-point racing harnesses, a four-point rear roll cage, and a
quick-release NRG steering wheel. But even with all these
race-ready components, this is far more than just a track car. The
premium nature of this RX-7 comes back into play when you see
features like the power windows, power locks, keyless entry,
AM/FM/CD/XM stereo, Bluetooth, and the cold air conditioning
running modern R134a. But as you grab the Hurst shifter and look at
the full GM gauge cluster, you are instantly reminded that this is
far more than a Mazda.
Under the hood is a serious upgrade. The Corvette's 5.7-liter LS1
V8 has been expertly transplanted into the engine bay. This
fuel-injected American hero has been rebuilt less than 2,000 miles
ago and fortified with ported Z06 heads, Diamond pistons, custom
camshaft, LS2 rods, ARP bolts, Clevite bearings, Cloyest timing
gear & chain, 10.22:1 compression, and JTR headers that feed the
dual exhaust. The full package makes around 392 horsepower, which
is a major upgrade over the '93 RX-7's original 225 hp. That makes
this lightweight coupe a true rocket ship, and that's why the rest
of the components were upgraded to optimize all the added power. It
starts with the Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission that
features a Hurst Diamond clutch, and controlling all this added
power in the streets is a breeze with the RX-7's fully independent
suspension upgraded with BC racing coilovers, new polyurethane
bushings, ABS, and a Stoptech six-piston brake kit with the
four-wheel discs.
