The slick black paint laid atop of the iconic 1950's body lines on
this classic Pontiac are to die for! This was the second generation
of the Chieftain and back when it was being produced it featured
cutting edge design qualities and a major upgrade under the hood.
It was the first year that Pontiac dropped in the 316 CID V8 that
was producing just over a whopping 190HP. Although it is not a true
numbers matching car, you will still find a similar engine situated
under the long heavy metal hood that has been freshened up. A trend
that you will notice right away in both the interior and trunk
area, is the well done tuck and roll upholstery. The extra labor
that was needed to accomplish this look though was well worth it
giving the car both a stylish 50's look and a comfortable ride.
While looking through the interior of this Chieftain, there was one
thought that came to mind. What happened to this level of quality
of craftsmanship and styling? The steering wheel alone has a glossy
black paint with a chrome metal ring floating in the middle for the
horn and a Chieftain emblem dipped in acrylic with a diamond
background. This is the kind of attention to detail that has been
lost over the years! The under carriage of this classic Pontiac is
nearly as clean as the smooth finish on top and is show worthy. It
is not just a pretty face! Jump in, turn the key, and almost
instantly the V8 comes to life. It may be an automatic
transmission, but don't forget the parking brake! This transmission
uses the neutral instead of a park position and relies on the
parking brake to keep it from rolling away. Once the parking brake
is removed, drop it into gear and cruise away with ease. The 316
has plenty of power to get you up to speed and cruises nicely. This
Chieftain would make an excellent weekend cruiser that is
guaranteed to turn heads where ever it goes! This vehicle is
