Vehicle Description
The 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe is iconic for its styling and for
its one-year-only rear Split Window, a feature that is so unique
that the model has simply become known as the 'Split Window'. This
car has been constructed to retain the classic appearance of the
original car, but to utilize modern components under that Sting Ray
fiberglass. Beginning with original bodywork and much of the
original components, but missing its original drivetrain, the
decision was made to create a modern 'classic' as a means to
preserve what was there and allow it to have a new life. The plan's
execution was carried out flawlessly.
This Corvette was built with stock exterior components including
bumpers, turn signals, knock off alloy wheels and body trim, but
underneath, nearly everything is chosen to reach the build goals.
The drivetrain is modern balanced and blueprinted 427 ci LS-7 with
four speed automatic transmission, aluminum radiator, external
transmission cooler, custom engine mounts, brackets, hidden fuel
rail, modern air conditioning and smoothed firewall.
Undercarriage includes custom suspension components with adjustable
shocks, power vented disc brakes, rack and pinion steering with
stainless steel linkage, ceramic coated headers and custom exhaust.
The original frame rails were painted to a standard matching the
rest of the build.
The interior features custom leather seats and headliner, wool
carpets, custom center console, custom a/c outlets and controls,
vinyl dash top and restored gauges. Original door hardware was
retained and power windows are included. Custom seat belts, anti
glare windshield. The odometer shows only 283 miles since
completion.
