Vehicle Description
"The Beginning of Tomorrow", that is one tag line that Pontiac used
when it introduced the second generation F-body Firebirds. The cars
were sleek, futuristic and aerodynamic. The Trans Am was the
ultimate Firebird. For 1970 model year the Pontiac Trans Am was a
holistic package of performance. The aerodynamics consisted of
front and rear spoilers, a spoiler at each wheel and air extractors
on each side of the fenders. Not only did this give the car an
aggressive look unique only to the Trans Am, it also proved very
functional as the combination of the front spoiler and air
extractors added 50 pounds of down force at highway speeds which
assisted to most excellent front-end stability. The suspension
features a beefy 1 inch front stabilizer bar and an added rear
stabilizer bar and the 400 cubic inch Ram Air V8 with 4 barrel
carburation features 10.5:1 compression developing 345 horse power
and 430 pound feet of torque. The Trans Am was not built to be a
stripped down performance car, it is wonderfully appointed with a
stylish and exciting interior. At the center is Pontiac's exclusive
14 inch Formula steering wheel, the signature engine turned
aluminum instrumentation panel, simple yet accurate gauges, bucket
seat and can be optioned to taste.
