Debuted at the March 1966 Geneva show, Ferrari's 330 GTC was a
svelte, high-speed Grand Touring coupe for two with a luxurious and
remarkably spacious passenger compartment. Pininfarina designed and
built the subtly elegant bodywork of the 330 GTC to exceptional
standards of quality at their Grugliasco production facility near
Turin, with styling a masterful combination of the best elements of
the 500 Superfast and 275 GTS. The light, airy roof utilized
exceptionally thin pillars and offered remarkably good visibility;
this feature was unique to the 330 GTC and continued with its 365
GTC successor. Slender quarter-bumpers at all four corners,
purposeful air extractors at the front fenders, and subtle "330"
scripts rounded out the exterior appointments.
Outstanding power output was provided by the Colombo-derived Tipo
209 SOHC four-liter V-12 engine delivering 300 factory-rated
horsepower with triple Weber twin-choke carburetors. Sharing its
outstanding basic chassis design with Ferrari's 275 including its
fully-independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, a five-speed
gearbox and rear transaxle, the 330 GTC delivered near-perfect
balance and excellent handling characteristics that continue to be
renowned by true Ferrari driving enthusiasts today. Capable of
accelerating from rest to 60 mph in less than seven seconds, en
route to quarter-mile times below 15 seconds and a top speed of 150
mph, the 330 GTC advanced and refined the classic Ferrari Grand
Touring concept as never before, with heightened levels of style
and luxury to match its on-road prowess. Only an approximate 600 of
these potent and handsome performers were built through 1968, when
the larger-displacement 365 GTC succeeded it.
Numbered 09911, this 330 GTC is listed in Hilary A. Raab's Ferrari
Serial Numbers Part I and accompanied by history compiled by
Ferrari marque expert Marcel Massini confirming it was an original
left-hand drive, European version factory-equipped with air
conditioning and finished in Argento (Silver) over Nero Franzi
(Black) leather. It was car number 229 in terms of assembly
sequence, with its chassis frame sent to Carrozzeria Pininfarina to
receive its body during February 1967 and it was completed that
May. While 09911 was at first destined for Franco-Brittanic Autos
in Paris, France, it is noted by Massini that the car's destination
was changed before its production began and crossed out on the
factory paperwork. Following production, 09911 remained in Italy,
where its first owner was named Belelli. In 1972, the GTC was
exported to California and then in January 1975, it was advertised
for sale in the Ferrari Owners Club USA Newsletter by Nick
Dioguardi of Glendale, California, with the car described as
"...silver with black interior, new exhaust, brakes, clutch,
springs, Koni shock absorbers and radiator, air conditioning,
excellent, 80,000 kms."
Next, 09911 was sold to the service manager at La Jolla Ferrari,
who is known to have shown the car just once, at the June 1995
Rosso Rodeo Concours on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.
It remained under single ownership for nearly forty years, until
only recently when it was discovered in a California garage, after
many years of slumber. Upon discovery and purchase, an
engine-compression check was performed by experts in October 2016,
with good readings from 150 to 165 psi measured on all 12
cylinders. A major service and reconditioning was carried out
starting in December of 2016 at a cost of over $25,000.00 with
attention to the brakes, engine, fuel pump, carburetors, starter,
suspension, fuel lines, new correct Michelin XWX tires,
undercarriage steam cleaning and much more. Service records are on
file and will be included with the sale. The interior remains
largely original with both front seats being recently restored
while the exterior paint is showing age and flaws there is evidence
of some original paint in areas. Retaining the attractive original
color combination and retaining it matching numbers engine this 330
GTC is a wonderful car to use and enjoy as-is, with excellent
floors and structure worthy of continued preservation and enjoyment
or a great base to take to the next level. 09911 is highly
desirable in basic essence as long-term California-based example of
quite likely the finest "Enzo Era" V-12 Ferrari Grand Touring model
ever produced.
