The Red Bull Racing Team, owned by Red Bull energy drink founder
Dietrich Mateschitz, utilized his vast resources as he began to put
personnel in place with his NASCAR Sprint Cup team for its 2007
debut. The drivers for the team were Brian Vickers (#83) and A.J.
Allmendinger (#84); well-respected crew chief Kevin Hamlin being in
charge of the Vickers car. Kevin Hamlin gained attention and
respect in winning nine Sprint Cup races prior to joining the team;
five of those wins were with Richard Childress Racing and Dale
Earnhardt Sr. During the 2008 season, the #83 team finished 19th in
the final NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. The Red Bull team amassed
three top-five finishes and eight top-ten finishes during the
course of the racing season. The team gained a reputation for
having fast, well-prepared machines.
This Toyota was originally purchased directly from the NASCAR
Sprint Cup Red Bull Racing Team as a fully running car that is
ready for vintage racing. It was built with a Toyota Racing
Development NASCAR engine with road course top-loader transmission
and axle gears, Alcon brakes and full containment seat.
While run by the Red Bull Team the car ran at Sonoma (Infineon) and
Watkins Glen with best finishes of 14th at Sonoma and 18th at
Watkins Glen. The current consignor took ownership of the Toyota
following a restoration and preparation by Gene Felton Racing. The
car has been successfully campaigned in HSR, SVRA Vintage events by
current owner and remains highly capable to compete.
This Car of Tomorrow body shape is no longer legal, and the
distinctive rear wing has been eliminated, all of which helps to
enhance collectability. It is a true NASCAR racing machine.
