1967 Mercedes Benz 250SL California Coupe in Huntington Station, NY

Vehicle Description

1967 MERCEDES BENZ 250 SL CALIFORNIA COUPE WITH HARDTOP
--Graphite Grey with Tan interior and Tan German square weave carpeting, 2.5L overhead-cam fuel injected inline 6-cylinder engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 49,000 miles from new, Original factory Becker ‘Europa’ radio, Rare California Coupe specification with single rear bench seat.

The stylish Mercedes-Benz W113 was presented at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show and replaced both the expensive 300SL and entry-level 190SL with one medium-priced two-seat sports car. The elegant body was designed by Bela Barenyi with patented concave hardtop, soon called the "Pagoda." These SL’s have proven to be timeless in their appeal. Not only timeless in appearance, the SL is also one of the best-handling classic sports cars of its era with road manners years ahead of most of their contemporaries.

The 250 SL was produced from December of 1966 to January 1968 making it the rarest of the W 113 series cars from Mercedes Benz at that time. Of the 5,196 manufactured in the one short year of production, only about 1,700 were sold in the U.S.

This rare 250 SL California Coupe was originally delivered to California and remained in the Golden State until only a few years ago. It was originally delivered to first owner Mr. R Harper, resident of Pacific Palisades, California. Although records show change of ownerships, the maintenance records show it continued to be serviced in and around the Los Angeles area for years to come. The 250 remained in California until 2014 when it was acquired by its past and most recent owner.

This 250 SL is best described as a survivor that is exceptional in all respects. It has been repainted once in the past in its original color, the structure is excellent and rust free, not the norm for these cars, especially if they have lived on the East Coast. The interior is remarkably original and absolutely excellent condition throughout.

On recent road tests this 250 SL drove extremely well. The car has excellent power from the 2.5L engine, shifts very well and cruises the way Mercedes intended it to. All gauges, switches and knobs work as they should.

Offered with original factory literature, build records and in its original color combination, this is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the most rare of the SL model series, the California Coupe with Hardtop with single bench rear seat as designated by option ‘417’ on its factory record.

This 250 SL is ready for immediate use and enjoyment.
