A collector’s dream!
In 1968 James O’Donnell, a New York banker, joined forces with
retired Chrysler designer Virgil Exner to revive the Stutz Motor
Company that dominated racetracks and land speed records in the
first part of the 20th century. The new Blackhawk was first
prototyped in Italy by Ghia at a cost of over $300,000 U.S.
dollars. Exner, known for his classic lines, penned a car that
featured a protruding spare tire out of the trunk, side pipe style
exhaust, lavish chrome work and freestanding headlamps - a nod to
the original Stutz automobiles. Based on a GM drivetrain, the
completed cars featured a handmade heavy gauge steel body built by
the finest Italian craftsmen. Over 1,500 man hours would go into
every car that crossed the assembly line in Italy. The final car
debuted in January of 1970 in New York City. Its lavish design and
well-appointed leather interior that featured 24 karat gold-plated
trim attracted many notable buyers including entertainers such as
Dean Martin, Lucille Ball, Elvis Presley, and Sammy Davis Jr.
Production would end in 1987 after only approximately 550 cars were
assembled, but the iconic style and excellent construction of the
Stutz Blackhawk is what welcomes the marque into many private
collections around the world today.
The 1974 Stutz Blackhawk Coupe featured here is finished in
stunning all black with a beautiful black leather interior. This
magnificent Blackhawk has only been driven 65,315 actual miles and
is one of the finest examples we have seen in years. It was
recently acquired from its meticulous owner in Southern California;
it is one of approximately 550 built, was recently serviced and it
is ready to be driven or shown. It comes fitted with nearly every
available option including factory air-conditioning, chrome wire
wheels, cruise control, power windows, power disc-brakes, power
sunroof and much more. Blackhawks were produced in limited numbers
and accompanied with a price tag similar to that of a Rolls-Royce.
We are proud to offer what we believe to be one of the very best
examples of this iconic Stutz that can be found on the market
today. I personally believe that the investment potential of this
great Italian-made classic car will grow beyond your imagination.
