SPLENDID SHELBY GT350 HERTZ RENT-A-RACER TRIBUTE! FACTORY K-CODE FASTBACK FITTED WITH AC, C4 AUTOMATIC, AND COBRA PERFORMANCE PARTS! ALL THE RIGHT LOOKS THAT INCLUDE ALL THE FUN, ONLY AT A FRACTION OF THE PRICE OF AN ORIGINAL! ACT QUICKLY ON THIS ONE!!
Early Ford Mustangs are still among one of the strongest blue chip investments any car collector could make. Honing in on the rarest examples can cost someone their children’s college education! These examples are most certain to have the Carroll Shelby badge affixed to them. So most enthusiasts, of the popular Mustang Shelby GT350 Fastback will settle for a recreation, or tribute, over the real thing. This 1966 Mustang K-code fastback is a superb example built to satisfy both the eye and the performance appetite of anyone lucky enough to park it in their garage! It has been restored to resemble one of the famed Hertz GT350 Rent-A–Racer! Only 1,001 originals were produced, of which only 60 were red with gold stripes, making this tribute even more special!
This 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Fastback is brilliantly finished in Candy Apple Red with Gold over-the-top stripes and matching rocker panel stripes! It began life as a factory K-code 2+2 Fastback and is presently listed in the K-code registry. Options include non-original 1965 HIPO date-coded 289ci/271 horsepower V8 engine, C4 transmission, and 9” rear axle fitted with 3.50:1 Traction-Lok, air conditioning, ventilated front disc brakes, folding rear seat, Plexiglass rear quarter windows, functional side scoops for rear brake cooling, reverse lights, fiberglass hood scoop with lock-down pins, windshield washer system, and Custom Autosound AM/FM/Cassette with trunk mounted 10-disc CD changer!
Finding a K-code platform car such as this to begin a Shelby clone can be an extremely hard thing to do, but certainly the most appropriate way to honor any factory example! Our Fastback was located in North Carolina by its former Texas owner in March of 2005. It was immediately shipped across the country to The Mustang Ranch, Inc. based in Fresno, California for a complete overhaul and professional build into the GT350! Under their expertise, this vehicle had seen a comprehensive frame up restoration that rebuilt the entire drivetrain, replaced every piece of the fuel system, braking system, suspension components, most of the wiring harnesses, HEI ignition system, cooling system, etc. all finished in approximately May of 2008! The paint was first completed in classic red with white GT stripes, and later refinished again in August 2013 in the combination you see today to better represent a GT350H instead! All of the weather stripping was replaced at the same time with fully clear-coated stripes! Performance enhancements include Tri-Y headers, resonator tubes, and side exit exhaust; Shelby Cobra aluminum valve covers, chrome air cleaner, and an oversized Cobra 7.5-quart aluminum oil pan make this engine look, sound, and perform the part of a real Shelby! Further enhancements include Shelby reproduction 10-spoke aluminum alloy wheels fitted with BF Goodrich T/A rubber, 1” front sway bar, proper Shelby GT350 badging, & Hertz wide side stripe, door sill plates, deluxe wood steering wheel, M&R 3” racing belts, chrome Talbot style racing mirror, fiberglass hood & side scoops, oversized front disc brakes, Holley 600cfm carburetor, Pertronix ignition, correct Cobra dash-mounted tachometer (believed to be in-op due to the electronic ignition upgrade).
It retains clear, visible VIN stamps on the inner fender. A Shelby tag has been added to simulate authenticity to the driver’s side. A VIN stamp is represented on the engine block as well, just from a 1965 Dearborn built Mustang K-code coupe. The odometer shows 34,148 miles, although receipts provided show only 1,679 miles since completion of the Shelby GT350 conversion! It will also come with a rare, original built sheet found by Mustang Ranch during the build documenting this car & its factory original door tag perfectly! Best of all, you will see an original Carroll Shelby signature on the glove box as well as a signed t-shirt to go on to the next owner of the car, both include certificate of authenticity! Please feel welcome to call for further details of the car itself. We are also available to show you this beautiful Mustang in person! Thanks for looking!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL BUYERS:
The above document was created by St. Louis Car Museum when I purchased the car in Nov 2014. Below is work I had done after I purchased the car.
I purchased this car from St. Louis car museum in Nov 2014 for 49,895.00. In the 2 1/2 years I have owned the car I have put another Documented 18,460.00 dollars with 4 invoices detailing all the work done in 2016/2017. I also replaced the Tachometer which did not work when I purchased the car, with a Shelby reproduction “exact look a like”. I still have the original dealer installed tachometer that was not working due to the points system being replaced by HEI ignition system. I have lots of extra parts to go along with the car. "Very rare" this car has an original 4100 Autolite Carburetor C6ZF F with Tag to prove it.
