This 1948 3.5 liter Jaguar MK IV having been in storage since 1960, was removed from storage in 2012 and a year long mechanical restoration was undertaken.
Work began with a complete motor rebuild, installation of a new wiring harness, a thorough fuel system cleaning and carb rebuilding. The radiator was recored, the wheels were powder coated and fit with new tires, and all fluids were changed. All gauges were cleaned, tested and rebuilt as required. The car received a complete brake system over haul and a new battery and exhaust system were installed. The intent was to drive the car and sort it out before continuing the restoration of the paint and interior. The owner has now decided to focus his efforts onto other projects and is offering the car for sale as a “survivor” that can be use as an unrestored example or a great platform for an aesthetic restoration.
With the exception of the areas on the front fenders were the turn signals were removed, all the paint on the car appears to be the original black finish from the factory.
Currently the seats and door panels appear to be original but show their age. The interior wood dash and trim is in very nice condition and is most likely a result of a previous refinishing. The headliner and carpet are clearly in need of replacement.
It should be noted that with fewer then 100 miles on the car since it was made road worthy again, it's likely that further sorting may be required. Spare parts include replacement front turn signal housings that were oddly removed from the front fenders at some point in the 1950’s, as well as assorted used parts and hardware. Documents include previous registrations from 1958, 59’ and 60’ as well as a previous owners bill of Sale dated April 1954, owner manual and recently issued Jaguar Heritage Certificate. This MK IV is one of approximately only 85 saloon MK IV examples imported to the United States.
