CLASSIC CAR AUCTION - JULY 27 - JULY 29, 2017 **** The 1969 Camaro
was built in many desirable performance versions such as Super
Sport, Rally Sport and the venerable Z/28. Topping the performance
charts was the COPO Camaro. The acronym COPO stood for Central
Office Production Order and included one very important option -
the powerful 427-425 HP big block engine. It is estimated that less
than 400 of these fire-breathing Camaros were ever produced.
Original COPO Camaros commonly fetch six-figure prices in today's
collector market. Hobbyists quickly discovered that building
tribute cars of the legendary COPO Camaro allowed many more Camaro
enthusiasts to enjoy this type of muscle car. This Camaro coupe
follows the trend and has been restored to an exacting COPO
standard. When built new at the Norwood, Ohio Chevrolet factory
this coupe crossed the assembly line in the iconic Hugger Orange
color. The recent professional rotisserie restoration included all
new sheet metal and resulted in a laser straight body which was
then re-painted in the classic orange hue. Every inch of the car
was refurbished including all new chrome, glass and weather
stripping to name a few. The big block engine is backed up by a
Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a bullet-proof 12 bolt rear
axle with a 3.73 gear. Covering up all this power is a functional
cowl induction hood. The Camaro rolls on factory style steel wheels
with Goodyear polyglas tires and front disc brakes. The correct
dual exhaust makes all the right sounds and the fully rebuilt
suspension keeps the car planted on the road. This Camaro COPO
tribute car is most certainly ready for show or go this season.
