Gateway Classic Cars of Philadelphia is thrilled to present this
stunning 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Coupe! This is the real
deal; not a clone, nor a tribute nor an amateur excuse. If you are
looking for a true Super Sport, look no further, for this is the
one! Assembled at the GM plant in Lakewood, GA in April 1966 and
sold by Beasley-Cross Chevrolet Co. in Kannapolis, North Carolina,
this vehicle has seen a lot in its day and looks to see much more
with its new owner! As previously mentioned, this Chevelle is a
real SS as denoted not only by the "138" in the VIN, but more
importantly by the presence of its legendary power plant, a 396 CID
V8 Big Block Engine! Additionally, this is not some average crate
engine; it too is the real McCoy! While several plants assembled
Chevelles, there was only one that produced the 396 Big Blocks;
Tonawanda. Yes indeed, this engine is stamped on the bare block pad
with the "T" ensuring this is a true factory period correct
Chevelle SS396! Coupled to the engine is a Muncie four-speed manual
transmission that extends its company within the interior as a
Hurst shifter. Add a 12 bolt posi- traction 3.55 rear end and
you'll be sure to smoke the competition! While you are in the
interior, look around and admire the flawless headliner and dash
which look as nice as they did when the car left the assembly
plant. Comfortable and stylish black vinyl bucket seats and center
console echo the sporty nature of the car and provide a grand view
of a beautiful instrument panel with full gauges. Note the
tachometer and clock which bring both performance and luxury
qualities to the driver's experience. Thanks to a complete frame
off rotisserie restoration, this Chevelle knocks out every other
car you've seen. The professionals of Old Gold Auto Restoration in
Sackville, Nova Scotia brought this Chevelle SS to the next level
and subcontracted the engine overhaul work with an engine shop to
GM standards. A mirror finish was achieved thanks to superior body
work that went down to the bare metal. During restoration, all the
body panels were shown to be rust free originals. The car received
a glowing multiple base-clear coat paint job that replicates the
original Aztec Bronze (M-M Paint Code) color that graced this car
in 1966. Carefully walk around and you'll see correct badging as
well as factory stickers that are seen when opening the trunk
denoting jacking instructions and limited slip differential
caution. Glimmering as much as the body is the engine bay that
holds the 396 and excellently represents a solid restoration. A
factory distributor and ignition share space with a newly installed
AGM 12 volt battery in a simulated 1966 GM AC Delco case.
Additional features include AM/FM RadiowithCassette, Power Brakes,
Power Steering, Seat Belts, and a set of 15" period correct Rally
Wheels (BF Goodrich T/A raised white letter radials including
spare!) To view this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 Coupe in greater
