For Sale: 1970 Ford Mustang in Manhattan Beach, California

Vehicle Description

Up for sale is my beautiful fully restored factory "M" Code, 4-speed, shaker 1970 Mustang Mach 1.  This was a nut and bolt restoration that was completed in 2004, about 1,800 miles ago, and the car has been garage kept & covered ever since.  The restoration still looks awesome and this beautiful car will still win trophies. Full documentation including Marti Report and Ford factory invoice.  This is a unique restoration in that visually it looks factory original inside and out, however, the engine and drivetrain have some performance modifications so she sounds and drives awesome! Here are the specifics:

Car’s History:

I am the third owner and have owned it since 2000. The car was sold by Beshore and Koller Inc., a Ford dealer in Manchester (York), PA to the first owner who sold it to the second owner sometime in the 1980’s. I bought it from the second owner in 2000 who was in Erie, PA and transported it to the Philadelphia area where it underwent the restoration. In 2010 I relocated to Los Angeles and that is where the car is now.

The restoration:

I wanted to have a car that looked mostly factory, with some subtle performance enhancements … until you heard her run! There was much effort to restore her to concours quality as much as possible. Here’s how that went:

The body was fully stripped and blasted to bare metal.  Factory panels were retained where possible.  Quarters are original with some rust repair, doors have new skins, fenders are original Ford (1 NOS), hood is original, deck lid is original. Floors are new repo and some inner wells were replaced.  Body work is still straight and the basecoat/clearcoat paint still look fresh. The undercarriage, engine bay, inner fenders and luggage area were all detailed.  There was much research and many conversations with restoration experts Jeff Speagle and Bob Perkins on restoration details and factory markings. Check out the pictures.

The interior was fully restored including new carpet, all seat covers (by Glazier’s Mustang Barn), factory tooling dash pad, headliner, and the chrome was redone on the console and instrument cluster.  The rim blow wheel was restored as well. Show quality interior! Oh, and the door panels are original to the car.

Parts … many, many NOS parts were used in the restoration.  This was a time when they were still accessible.  Some include gas tank, pop open gas cap, taillight panel, taillight bezels, sill plates, front markers & bezels, hood molding & headlight trim, fender, door handles and more. When an NOS part was not used or a factory part was not re-plated or restored, repo parts used were the best available at the time.

Details: All seals were replaced, the rear wire harness was restored, all plated parts were re-plated (some sign of wear on cad plating).  Every nut & bolt was either replaced with proper hardware or restored. Factory markings and stickers were meticulously added. Factory tach and gauges worked but are disconnected because of the MSD ignition and mechanical gauges.

Engine:

The original block has the VIN # stamped on it and was completely built by L&M engines outside Philadelphia.  Bored .030, original crank was polished, new steel rods, new forged J&M pistons 10.5:1, mechanical roller crane cam, roller rockers, manley valves, blue thunder DP intake, demon 650 DP carb, MSD distributor & 6AL ignition. Full length ceramic coated headers, x-pipe, flowmasters & custom made factory original exhaust tips with 2 ½” inlets. The engine was balanced and broke in on the dyno where it made 440+ HP.

Drivetrain:

Original 4-speed toploader was refreshed and detailed, factory correct 4-speed driveshaft is detailed with new heavy duty u-joints and rebuilt 3.91:1 rear center section (I have the original 3.25:1 center section). The rear end has 31 spline axles with new bearings & seals and the housing is fully detailed.

Mechancials:

Rebuilt power steering pump, steering box, power brake booster, master cylinder, new brake lines, fuel lines, power steering lines, PS cylinder & all new ball joints and steering joints.  NOS Upper (late style) & lower control arms. All new & detailed brakes and hardware.

Show Car … I have won a number of trophies from local car shows and if someone wanted to take her back to a fully original restoration and make a go at a concours show it wouldn’t be that hard.  Basically just detune the engine by changing the cam and putting on the original intake, carb & distributor.  Replace the headers and exhaust and remove the tach and gauges. Get some wide oval tires for the factory detailed rims and you are there.

Check out the pictures of this beautiful mustang and let me know if you have any questions!
