This Defender was originally purchased by the Dutch military
under a blanket purchase contract in 1989 and is as such a left
hand drive three door 24 volt military version of the legendary
Defender One Ten. It is unrestored and mostly complete. It has been
fitted with four Defender front bucket seats in the rear section.
It is equipped with a not original but very desirable 2.5 liter
200TDi turbo diesel from a 1991 Land Rover and is in very good
running condition. The 5-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly
and the all-wheel drive system and center diff lock work as
intended. The steering in the military versions is unassisted but
manageable. The front disk/rear drum power assisted brake system
works properly.
Defenders were offered in two wheel bases, the Ninety and One Ten.
The numeric model designation refers to the wheelbase; 92" and
110". The One Ten were available in three door and five door
configurations. Military versions were equipped with 24 volt
electrical systems utilizing two 12 volt batteries in series and
remain intact on this Defender. The water based heater, including
the rear air handling module works properly and though equipped
with a diesel fuel auxiliary heater the working condition of that
is unknown. Military versions also featured heavier duty frames and
axles.
Registered for civilian use prior to purchase and export from
Holland by the current owner the vehicle was subject to strict
annual safety inspections to prove road worthiness by the Dutch
Transportation Authority and was again subject to safety inspection
when registered and titled for road use in Texas. Accordingly, this
Defender has fully functional instruments and lighting and does not
drip fluid. European safety standards including Holland are far
more stringent and comprehensive than most US State safety
criteria.
This Defender has a solid frame with no rot. There are a few areas
of corrosion where steel meets the aluminum body panels.
Replacement upper floor pans are in place on both sides but have
not been welded in. All of the glass is good. A removable sunroof
is installed. The spare is mounted on the hood. The tires are newer
BF Goodrich Mud Terrain T/A Radials.
This '89 Defender One Ten is a very solid driver with some rough
edges. It is ready for adventure, local shows or restoration. It is
offered for sale as is where is. Located in Plano, Texas. Texas
residents may be subject to tax and fees. Scammers and sales
assistants need not apply. Call text or reply.
