Vehicle Description
New School 1967 Z28
In 1967 the famed Z28 was rated at a mere 290
horsepower......hahahahhahhhahhhhh ......Oh well Gm , was trying
very hard to hide the true ratings for insurance and racing class'
and such. The reality was that this car was really putting out
about 360 horsepower and had a great power curve to the upper RPM
range which pretty much made it a great car for the Trans-Am / SCCA
race series , in fact this car was the brainchild of a little known
executive at GM ,Vince Piggins, his idea was to offer a car that
was virtually race ready and be able to sell it from any Chevy
dealer in the country...... GREAT CONCEPT...!!!!! Let's do the
upgrade........ How do you follow such an unbelievably Iconic car
like the 1967 Camaro Z28......You leave it alone cosmetically and
you completely and thoroughly revamp all of the drivetrain and
suspension to the very latest technology...Above all else you don't
mess with the very style and stance that brought this Icon into the
forefront of automotive history......... You leave it Alone!!!! I
would start with an LS3 (6.2 L) This motor will probably go down in
history as the single most powerful and flexible powerplant in GM's
history This motor is the mainstay for Corvette and Camaro SS....
In my mind I would opt for dependability, and great performance in
equal portions so the LS3 that makes total sense is the 430
horsepower version along with the 4L65E 4 speed All aluminum
transmission , match all of that up to a GM 12 bolt 355 Posi then
couple all of that up to some big Corvette discs in the front and
high performance Hotchkis suspension all around and you have one
Bad To the Bone late model LS conversion the New School Z 28 and
