Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars Houston is proud to present this outstanding
1960 MG MGA Roadster. The MGA is a British sports car produced by
MG in Abingdon England from 1955-1962. It was introduced to replace
the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from
MG's earlier sports cars. The car was officially launched at the
Frankfurt Motor Show and a total of 101,081 were made over the
whole production span. In May 1959 the standard cars received an
updated engine and now at 1588 cc it produced 79.5 bhp (59 kW; 81
PS). At the front, disc brakes were fitted, but drums remained in
the rear. This is a 1600 car with a 4 speed transmission. The 2nd,
3rd and 4th gears are all synchronized but 1st is not. Finished in
Old English White lacquer paint and a black interior it is a truly
beautiful combination. The current owner has owned the car for 38
years and said that it was repainted 30 years ago. The car only has
86,677 original miles and it really does show. It has been
maintained well over the years receiving a full engine and
transmission rebuild 28 years ago and garage kept since. The car
has many options including a heater, radiator shroud, oil cooler,
manual convertible top, spin on oil filter adaptor, 12v battery,
fog lights, full carpeting, burl wood dash, luggage rack, tonneau
cover, security kill switch, telescopic wheel, seat belts, leather
interior, wire wheels and radial tires. It should be mentioned that
this car is a numbers matching vehicle with original panels. When
the engine was overhauled it received new pistons (.40 over),
stellite valve and bronze guides for unleaded fuel, oil pump,
timing tensioner, camshaft, crank bearings, lifters and tappets.
The trans was overhauled and got new 3rd gear synchronizer, new 1st
gear and all the seals and gaskets had been replaced. The body was
completely dismantled and redone. The owner says he has all
receipts, spare and new parts, 20 years of MGA magazines and more.
