Part of the sixth-generation of Oldmobile’s 88 model line produced from 1965 to 1970, the Oldsmobile Delmont 88 was produced for two years only in 1967 and 1968, replacing the Jetstar 88 and Dynamic 88 models. Built the first week of July at GM’s Southgate, California plant this 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 Holiday Sedan has been a single-family owned car since new and has resided in Southern California its entire life. First introduced in 1955, Oldsmobile’s Holiday Sedans were the first four-door hardtops ever produced and remained a staple of the Oldsmobile 88 line until 1976. This Oldsmobile Holiday Sedan is powered by a Super Rocket 425ci High Compression V8 engine equipped with Oldsmobile’s optional Climatic Combustion Control which produces 310 horsepower and 450 ft. lbs. of torque and is mated to a Turbo-Hydra-Matic THM400 3-speed automatic transmission. Under the hood this Olds also features power brakes and power steering, along with new hoses and belts and a relatively new battery, as well as Four Season factory air conditioning, an option that also included heavy duty cooling equipment consisting of a heavy duty radiator, water pump, and Thermo-cool engine fan. Originally Aquamarine, the car has been repainted once in its lifetime in its original color and shows well, a testament to its garage-kept life, but it does have the types of blemishes you would expect to find on a workhorse family sedan such as scratches, paint chips, and minor dents, along with rust in the bottom corners of the front fenders and a small spot behind the rear driver-side passenger door. Inside, the black vinyl interior is all original and is in remarkable shape for its age, with the most noticeable wear to the driver’s side carpet area, however the car still has its original door panels, upholstery and headliner, all of which are in very good original shape and the car even features all of its original date-coded glass, with the exception of the rear window, which was replaced in 1968. Other features include an optional clock, which unfortunately does not work, although the original AM radio still does, and the Delmont also comes with a pair of original California black plates that are currently registered to it. Finally, this Delmont 88 rides on a set of original B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 8.55-14 thin whitewall bias ply tires mounted on original wheels with original hubcaps with a brand new matching spare in the trunk that even still have its original sticker. Although not as popular as coupes, classic sedans such as this Delmont 88 are nevertheless becoming more popular as their rarity increases, and being a Holiday Sedan with the High Compression 425 makes it that much better. This 1967 Oldsmobile Delmont 88 runs and drives as one would expect a well-preserved original car to, smoothly with plenty of power, and it stops quietly and quickly and overall is a great example of a rather rare model that had a relatively short production run.
