Vehicle Description
Commissioned by a combination of Pontiac Public Relations, the
Firebird Brand Team and Pontiac Advanced Engineering, this car was
given to John Lingenfelter, the legendary guru of performance, to
continue the development of his 383ci engine package and Ram intake
manifold on the GM LT1 engine. In early 1995 John Lingenfelter,
entered this vehicle in the Manufacturers High-Speed Shootout at
the Texas Mile. The competition came from most every tuner and
brand of that time. This Firebird Formula, with John Lingenfelter
at the wheel, won the championship at 196mph. Afterward the car was
returned to Pontiac Division and was used at a variety of events
and division functions. The relationship between Pontiac-GMC
Division and John Lingenfelter lasted until John's untimely death
in 2003. In about 2005 this car was completely dismantled and
restored by General Motors. It remained in the GM Heritage
Collection until being sold to the current owner in 2009.
