who owns one," can apply to a lot of cars but the advertising
tagline originated with Packard. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is very
pleased to present this 1954 Packard Clipper Super Deluxe Panama
Hardtop. This car was delivered to the original owner on May 19,
1954 from Mordan and Johnson Packard in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
Dressed in Chariot Red (code G) over Packard Ivory (code T)
enhances an already-rare car's presence as only 1,470 models were
made for 1954. This example's paint and trim are in good order but
there are some blemishes visible upon a closer look and seen as
some crazing in the lacquer paint due to age. The glass panels are
crack-free and clear while the lights are in overall good shape but
the taillights show some patina. Those taillights were distinctive
in shape and located on the top of the rear fender, separating the
Super from the Deluxe Clipper. Other distinctions were that Super
Clippers had chrome trim the full length of the car with Clipper'
in block letters on the trunk, a further upgraded interior, and
more standard equipment. This car rolls on stately white whitewall
tires that surround factory wheel covers and are in good shape. All
of the body panels are solid and straight, the bumpers are in great
condition and the engine bay is tidy. In that engine bay is a 327
CID inline eight-cylinder engine borrowed from Packard's
limousines. It has nine main bearings and a two-barrel carburetor
and it attached to an Ultramatic two-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, the car features a red leather and black nylon cloth
interior (code 327). The bench seats are in decent condition but
there are blemishes on the leather portion of the front seat. The
black carpet is in good condition, with some age while the
headliner and red metal instrument panel are all in good order.
while the 63 year old radio still works the vacuum wipers are slow
to operate and the fuel gauge is inoperable. The blower fan
functions but is stuck on the "On" position. The red, two-spoke
steering wheel and door panels are in very good shape. The mirror
glass and shifter look good. Finishing off the car's interior is
the original factory AM radio. Competition to this Packard in 1954
included DeSoto Firedome Club Coupe, Mercury's Monterey Custom
Coupe with Touch-O-Matic and Oldsmobile's 88 Holiday Coupe.
