Vehicle Description
At the height of Detroit's muscle car wars the one guaranteed way
to stop traffic in a new Corvette was to option a choice road
warrior, step a bit outside the box, and build the coolest custom
your money could buy. Take this glowing C3 for example. With its
original L89 427, it'll whip almost anything up and down the strip.
With its sorted and upgraded chassis, it'll be big fun on twisted
backroads. And with exotic Motion Performance bodywork that wraps
incredible House Of Kolor candy around correct leather upholstery,
it features a perfect combination of brash style and all-American
swagger. Want to park some impressive muscle in your garage? Check
out this killer Corvette!
HISTORY/BODYWORK
Of the many reasons to love the third generation of America's
sports car, style is certainly high on the list. As one of the most
aggressive designs to ever breach GM Tech Center doors, the C3 set
the standard for the official Corvette shape. Then, in the late
'60s and early '70s, a cat by the name of Joel Rosen decided to
take that standard from a 10 to an 11.
In addition to offering multiple parts and packages with pretty
much all the style and power your money could buy, "Mr. Motion",
utilizing nearby Baldwin Chevrolet as a sales channel, created
unique and sometimes outrageous components that let everyone know
you'd officially arrived in style. This Corvette, ordered as a
top-option L89 beast straight from the factory, has been outfitted
with the Motion Performance Phase III GT appearance kit you see
today. That said, one thing is certain: the car's incredible House
Of Kolor Cobalt Blue paint certainly isn't '60s fodder!
That vivid candy pigment, accented with an appropriate pearl
stripe, was applied in the fall of 2016. Naturally, it's founded on
a body-off, nut-and-bolt restoration. And, quite honestly, this
Corvette is one of those cars you just have to see first-hand to
fully appreciate.
ENGINE
Beneath the pinned hood you'll find an original, 427 cubic inch big
block that hangs a correct 3955270 casting number behind a correct
"LU" assembly stamp and matching 706201 partial VIN. Straight from
the factory, GM's storied L89 utilized high performance internals
to twist stout 11 to 1 compression into an even 435 horsepower! At
the peak of the pavement-scorching mill, a polished and decaled air
cleaner swirls wind in to a correct Winters intake by way of
correct Holley carburetors. At the sides of that plane, lightweight
Winters heads hang polished Motion valve covers between a polished
cap, a polished breather and polished Stainless Works headers. At
the back of those heads, chrome-capped ignition sequences spark
through sleeved plug wires. And in front of those wires, a beefy
radiator feeds GM-branded hoses that are cinched by requisite tower
clamps. Naturally, ancillary components are top notch in every way,
with a Delco-Remy alternator and rust-free brake booster
accompanying stainless fuel lines and a small Harrison expansion
tank. And bright Chevy Orange engine skin is seated in a clean,
Satin Black frame.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Peer under this low-slung coupe and you'll find a lightly massaged
chassis that's straight, solid and ready for its close-up. The
car's hot 427 twists torque through an original Muncie 4-speed,
which hangs a 1969 (9) Muncie (P) assembled on September (P) 19th,
(19) 1968 build stamp between a correct 3925660 casting number and
matching 706201 partial VIN. Beneath that drivetrain, a fully
rebuilt suspension combines optional power steering with upgraded
trailing arms and a stiff axle brace. At the corners of the car,
4-wheel power disc brakes ensure quick, drama-free stops. The
aforementioned headers shuttle spent gases through polished,
Motion-style side-pipes. All that fully sorted hardware rolls on
polished Motion wheels, which spin 6.00-15 Goodyear Blue Streak
Sports Car Specials in front of 7.00-15 Goodyear Blue Streak Sports
Car Specials. And everything, from this Chevy's NHRA-approved
bellhousing to its spry Koni Classic shocks, is fully sorted and
ready to roll.
INTERIOR
Slip in to this Stingray's correct Black interior and settle on one
of its firm leather buckets. A familiar dash hangs an array of
black-trimmed telemetry above a correct Delco AM/FM radio. At the
base of that dash, a tapered console props a factory shifter on
fade-free carpet. At the edges of that carpet, weather-free door
panels, highlighted by simple stainless hardware, front factory
power windows. In front of the driver, a tilt steering column spins
a satin-spoke steering wheel. And behind the passengers, a small
storage compartment reserves enough room for a pair of car show
chairs.
