Vehicle Description
West Coast Classics are proud to present a cherished example of
this long time California owned 1967 Jaguar '420' 4.2L 6 cylinder
'Sports Sedan'! Beautifully and professionally recently repainted
in it's original 'Willow Green' factory color with a superb Black
leather interior. The 420 Sports Sedan of 1967 was designed to
replace all existing Jaguar sedans and was believed by Jaguar to be
the incarnation of one of the finest sports sedans in the world. It
was designed to bring together the highest standards of it's day in
ride comfort, quietness, handling amp; road-holding with the
performance of the well proven and legendary six cylinder XK
engine; qualities previously thought incompatible in a luxury car.
It was definitely one of the most attractive British cars ever
built and would prove extraordinarily enduring with the design
lasting through many decades with this handsome cat later evolving
into the legendary XJ6 and XJ12 sedans. The Jaguar 420 and its
identical twin cousin, the Daimler Soverign equivalent, were
introduced in 1966 and only produced for two years as Jaguar's
ultimate expression of a series of of the Sports Sedan bodystyle
offered by the marque throughout that decade under a variety of
incarnations, all of which shared the same wheelbase. Developed
from the S-Type by Jaguar in Browns Lane, Coventry, England, the
420 cost around 200 more than the S-Type model and effectively
ended buyer interest in it, although the S-Type continued to be
sold alongside the 420/Sovereign until both were supplanted by the
later XJ6 model in 1968. Indeed, in 1967, its first full year of
production, the 420/Sovereign easily outsold the other Jaguar
saloon models still in production but unfortunately relatively few
were made in total due to the fact that the Coventry factory
stopped making the car in 1968, just over two years after
production began. The Jaguar 420 ceased production at Browns Lane
in September 1968 and the Daimler Sovereign in July 1969.The
performance of these small, sharp, tight sedans was nothing less
than legendary with the Jaguar 4.2L gaining a reputation as a
capable get away car amongst criminals and law enforcement alike
with it's renown acceleration from the legendary 4.2L engine of
0-60 mph in under 10 seconds and with a top speed of more than 125
mph, making it faster than 80% of all other contemporary two seater
sports cars available at the time and with the car still having
enough room for five adults! With a selling price well into the
range of a new Cadillac sedan in the U.S., more than the earlier Mk
II, this was an affluent car to own and the car became renown as a
real driver's car which explains its popularity! With most of these
cars having been neglected over the years or rusted beyond repair
to find an example like this one is most certainly a rare find. The
car has obviously been lovingly restored as necessary, with a
recent repaint in the striking original 'Willow Green' color paint
and with the original Black leather and burled walnut interior
showing very well - not a concourse example by any means but a true
survivor boasting obvious true pride of ownership! This is obviously
an extremely rare opportunity to own a beautiful surviving example
of this rare and collectible 1967 Jaguar Mark 420 Sports Sedan - a
perfect addition to any British car collection or an obvious choice
for the Jaguar enthusiast!
