Just arrived, a very rare example of the first 150 1989 Turbo Trans Ams
built for the 1989 Indianapolis 500 Festival and celebrity use.
This 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans AM “INDY 500 FESTIVAL CAR” 20th
Anniversary is #114 of 150. Celebrity owned with full documentation
from the Pontiac Historical Society. This extremely rare, OFFICIAL
PACE CAR is the 114th car out of 150 Indy 500 FESTIVAL CARS built
for the race in 1989. This car is DOCUMENTED with (3) autographed
confirmation letters proving its authenticity from its first titled
owner who took delivery from the track in 1989 to be racing legend
Dick Simon (Team Owner/Driver/Chief Mechanic) “Dick Simon Racing”.
Dick Simon has verified this festival car was assigned and driven
by Bobby Unser at the festival prior to his purchase from Indy in 1989.
These cars were the first to ever pace the Indianapolis 500 without
having to be performance modified to obtain the levels required to
pace this race! Its legendary Buick Grand National drive train and
the same intercooler and ceramic wheel turbo used in the GNX,
special heads, higher boost level, and aerodynamics of the Pontiacs
sleek design made the Trans Am the fastest of the three! However,
still not fast enough for this racing legend it was professionally
modified by Dick Simon “Dick Simon Racing” with a special chip,
in car dial-a-boost, special exhaust, fuel enhancement system,
open ram air cleaner, suspension upgrades and who knows what else? Books/manuals/press release/history/autographs... This is an
extremely rare piece of automotive Indy history with full documentation
Now it will look great in your garage.
The car is equipped with the factory original Buick 3.8 Liter V-6 Turbo
engine from the Grand National. Factory automatic transmission.
