Vehicle Description
The Blazer was designed and marketed to compete with International
Harvester Scout and the Ford Bronco. Both of these were originally
aimed at the short Jeep CJ series, which were much smaller than
other trucks. The great innovation of the Blazer was to simply
offer a shortened pickup truck, which both increased interior
space, and lowered the cost of production with a shared platform.
The Blazer quickly became popular. For the first time, it married
the off-road capabilities of the Scout with the "luxury" features
like air conditioning and automatic transmissions routinely
available on pickup trucks. By 1970, the Blazer was already
outselling both of its older rivals. Ford, Dodge, and even Jeep
would counter with similar shortened pickups, with the Dodge
Ramcharger and Jeep Cherokee.
The 1971 Blazer offered comes to us from the great state of
California and has been fortunate to have been treated to a
complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration. The truck is powered
by a Blue Print Engineering prepared 383 cubic inch engine hooked
to a 700R4 automatic transmission and transferred to the wheels via
a newly prepared transfer case. The truck features ton axles,
custom 16 inch aluminum wheels, 4 inch suspension lift, Eldlebrock
performer Carb and intake, hooker headers, power steering, power
brakes, front disc brakes, electric cooling fan, all new hoses, all
new suspension components, rancho 5000 shocks, MSD ignition, dual
Magnaflow exhaust, Alpine sound system, new seats, new carpet and
fully removable hard top. The restoration and modification on this
truck is high quality in all areas and the performance is
amazing.
Vintage 4X4's have found favor with the collector car world and
early K5 Blazers are red hot. These trucks continue to serve many
purposes in adventure, utility and family fun; and they are
considered excellent automotive investments. This is a great
vehicle for a seasonal home, everyday use and the centerpiece of
any collection.
