Introduced in 1969, the Maserati Indy was unique because it was
intended to replace two models. With production of both the Mexico
and Quattroporte winding down, Maserati needed a new, more modern
four place car to supplement the already well-received Ghibli. The
Indy was styled similarly (and built by Vignale) and was also
powered by Maserati’s venerable quad-cam V8. Just under 1200 Indys
were built in total. Equipped with power steering, a pair of back
seats and a large rear hatch that included the rear window, the
Indy is a much more practical and pleasant to drive car than the
Ghibli and could be enjoyed more regularly, in much the same way
the Ferrari 365 GTC/4 is a less exhausting car to drive than the
365 GTB/4 “Daytona”. Indeed, journalist Paul Frère described the
car perfectly, as “very fast and very bourgeois”.
The 1972 Maserati Indy 4.7 Coupe featured here is finished in
stunning Arancia with an impeccably kept black leather interior.
This magnificent motorcar is believed to have been driven just
18,437 miles from new and it still retains its original 4.7 liter
matching numbers engine. It is fitted with many desirable options
including power steering, power windows, factory air conditioning,
Koni shocks, and desirable ZF five-speed manual transmission thus
making this the example to add to any prominent collection; seldom
does one come across such a magnificent Indy in this kind of
condition with low miles and this color combination. We are proud
